View Full Version : Anyone Else Nervous? Tix?

You can't measure "care."
http://www.okctalk.com/images/vbe2blue/misc/progress.gif
Care is subjective, true, but I think I can measure how much someone cares about a team when I see their tickets that they purchased via a Corporate pick, on sale on Ebay or Craig's List before the ink on their credit card receipt is even dry.
Obviously, they don't care about the team like diehard fans do. They just want to turn a profit.
I'll say it again because I believe it.
If this person actually cared about tickets, he would have signed up in advance like all the rest of us, he would have supported the Hornets like all the rest of us and he would have done everything in his power to support an NBA team, he did none of these things ( I know him personally, he doesn't really care at all about basketball) and yet, he was still was given a seat selection by a Corporation earlier than anyone else, thus taking away a chance for someone who really does care about the NBA to purchase tickets.
I think the Hornet Season Ticket Holders should have had first pick (and I wasn't one) but they were instrumental in supporting the team financially and otherwise.
Anyway, I'm talking to some of my friends in this thread who have gone through many experiences with the NBA with me and sharing how I feel. I'm really not interested in being judged for feeling disappointing in not getting seats.
Doug Loudenback 09-10-2008, 12:04 PM Karrie, one reason I made my above post was for you ... you may well find that tickets suitable to your needs are or will be available. Keep your appointment (if you cannot piggy-back as a guest on someone else's appointment. See my PM.
Karried 09-10-2008, 12:14 PM Thanks Doug.. I'll give you a call.. see my PM lol
Laramie 09-10-2008, 01:34 PM Nervous, is an understatement, I'm saddened with disappointment!
I've already given up: I'm scheduled for Saturday the 13th--and I'm not superstitious!
Why didn't they select people as they called in or registered for tickets?
bigjkt405 09-10-2008, 01:49 PM I think we as the common fan (especially here in Oklahoma City) overstimate how much influence we have over the team. The corporate support is what drives the organization. Thats why teams like the Hawks can have only 10K for a game and still be fine. I've seen numerous posters who have and continue to think the attendance is sole determining factor when it isn't.
I am sorry some folks didn't get season tickets where they wanted them, but thats the way the cookie crumbles. I want this to be a success, and I think the rest of you do too.
Centerback 09-10-2008, 02:00 PM Doug I think our seats are right next to yours in the front row of section 311, (we were 9:30 am today as well) which I would argue have perhaps the best "value" in the building.

I am in Section 311, Row A, Seats 7-8.
There were a couple of guys in suits (I was in my standard shorts) while I was there ... was one of those guys you? I forgot to bring my camera this morning but I took a few pics with my cell phone ... but I've never learned how to get images off the phone to my computer! I went to AT&T to get a usb cable that would fit the phone this afternoon, but the damn thing doesn't fit. One of the pics would show the location. I may go back tomorrow (at my scheduled time) and take my camera which I can better handle!
Yes, I think those seats are a great value ... not too high up, great unobstructed view of the court, and not really in a corner, at a very good price. I'm very much looking forward to sitting there, and to meeting you, also.

You're not being judged; you're just denying some of the ins-and-outs of how this process has to work. It's an imperfect world; get a helmet.
We're dang lucky it's selling out like it is. You will be able to attend any game you want; there will be tickets available to every one of them, I promise you.

Voice of reason. I don't WANT Karried to be disappointed, but denying how it is doesn't help either.
Intrepid 09-10-2008, 05:02 PM My friend, who had a 4pm appt, said that there are a lot of upper level seats still available and that out of the 100 people that were in his group at 4pm, only a handful went up to the upper levels to select seats. His view is that there will be seats left tomorrow.
My appt is at 630p. I'm taking my camera and will attempt to get some good pictures.
Centerback 09-10-2008, 05:03 PM Yes sir, we're the suits, in 311, 9-10. I think I have added a view from my phone which I know is not very good. Photo_091008_001 on Flickr - Photo Sharing! (http://www.flickr.com/photos/9071996@N04/2847000704/)
OKCMallen 09-10-2008, 05:03 PM I am very pleased to report that ...
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a49/DougLoudenback/okcthunder/igotticketss.jpg
... thanks to the generosity of BeeCool at OKCNBAfans.com Forums :: Index (http://www.okchornetscentral.com/forum/index.php) who allowed me to be his guest this morning at his 9:30 appointment and get my two tickets on his account! Hoo Ahh! Not only that, the tickets were exactly where I wanted them to be in the 1st place - $30 balcony seats in Section 311.
It wasn't terribly crowded this morning and they have opened up some Club Level tickets that weren't earlier available. There are still a few good seats in the lower level, and good tickets (e.g., more balcony tickets) in the upper level.
Unless traffic changes during the day, I would not expect that all seats will be sold today, maybe not even tomorrow. We should have a better feel for that by the end of the day.
I think the media has done a disservice in "over" reporting the sales ... could have a chilling effect on people keeping their appointments. Mike Baldwin's report in his blog, Pro market (http://blog.newsok.com/nbainokc/2008/09/08/pro-market/) , was a gross exaggeration, for example.
Yay Doug!
CuatrodeMayo 09-10-2008, 05:09 PM 6:30 Tomorrow...=(
Karried 09-10-2008, 06:27 PM Voice of reason. I don't WANT Karried to be disappointed, but denying how it is doesn't help either.
Don't worry about it. I'll try to be at most of the games one way or another.
But, thanks for your concern.
btw, I'm thinking you were in on the Corporate early bird special.. so if you have any extra tix .. you can help alleviate my disappointment.. lol
Doug Loudenback 09-10-2008, 07:01 PM Yes sir, we're the suits, in 311, 9-10. I think I have added a view from my phone which I know is not very good. Photo_091008_001 on Flickr - Photo Sharing! (http://www.flickr.com/photos/9071996@N04/2847000704/)
Cool! That's the view! We're neighbors (though you won't find me in a suit unless I have court business to attend to)! I'm planning to go back tomorrow at noon for my "regular" appointment, just for fun and/or to help out another here who may want to "piggyback" like I did today, and, this time not being so flummoxed to get there on time, I'll remember to take my camera! I look forward to rubbing elbows with you this season, Centerback!
Yeah, it's really all of this piggy backing that has screwed it up. I think if everyone used their draw to buy their needs instead of doubling up for the needs of their friends, the selection process would have lasted longer and the integrity of the draw would have remained intact. So, as it is, it ended up being not how good your draw was, but how many people you knew on the list that got picked earlier. It's kind of like waiting in a long slow moving line and then watching all the people in front of you run into friends and let them in.
Doug Loudenback 09-10-2008, 08:06 PM Friends are good to have, and I won't deny that I got in a day + 2 1/2 hours earlier via that route than tomorrow at noon. But, if you're really wanting to get tickets, and have an appointment, BDP, chances remain good that you'll get them. When are you scheduled for your appointment?
Karried 09-10-2008, 08:07 PM Here's the Official Kiss Off from the Thunder Team re Thursday Seat Selections:
We have completed day three of the Thunder's Select-a-Seat process and we want to communicate to you how things look for those of you with appointments on Thursday.
We have now sold more than 10,000 season tickets and have approximately 3,000 remaining. We can report to you that the lower level of the Ford Center is now sold out. The remaining seats are predominately on the upper level. About 500 club seats remain for sale but those are for only one year due to planned renovations to the Ford Center.
We encourage you to keep your Thursday appointment. We don't know for sure how long the remaining seats will last but you should come see what's available. Buying an upper level season ticket prioritizes the ticket holder ahead of partial season ticket plans and individuals who are placed on the waiting list.
We hope to see you on Thursday!
GO THUNDER!
Intrepid 09-10-2008, 08:37 PM Just got home and got tix that I wanted! Section 303, Row J, seats 1 and 2. Would rather have had a few rows lower, but was more concerned with aisle seats.
For those with later appts, all lower bowl tix are sold out. There were many club seats still available and quite a few upper level seats left.
They take people in by groups of 100 and in my group at 630p, there were quite a few empty seats. So people are either giving up on their appointments or have gotten in with some earlier people.

I know you're going to be disappointed Karried, but just look at it that you are going to be a part of history. Upper level seats are not that bad. I actually prefer them in a way.
Just getting yourself an account and being a part of it is going to be awesome!
Karried 09-10-2008, 08:59 PM Thanks Intrepid,
We'll see how it all pans out.
I've actually had some great times in the uppers but my vision is so poor that I really can't see the game very well and I get vertigo and am afraid of heights.. so I'm not so much disappointed that I might be in Loud City, more disappointed that I can't actually see the game! lol
If I get tix I'll be happy to be there... just not as happy as I might have been if I were able to get the seats I really wanted.. but oh well, that's the luck of the draw I suppose.

I have friends that had better draws than me (some with opportunity before monday, actually), but I wanted to keep it in my name and didn't feel right about it. That's just a personal choice that I know most wouldn't do and I understand why. I have one on friday, but I am not sure what I am going to do, yet. I know that what I wanted is gone, so now it's just a matter of what the best strategy is for getting what I want in the future.

I understand what you are saying, BDP. Had someone (Beecool) not have sent me a private message inviting me to be present with him yesterday morning, which invitation I gladly accepted, that wouldn't have happened. That doesn't diminish the fact that I'm glad that he did. I could have said, "No, but thanks, just the same," as you perhaps would have done.
Yeah, I don't know. I might have taken it at this point, but I also doubt that I could have made it. I made plans for Friday and it probably would have been too late to switch things around now. My rep initially told me that 1) I was about the middle of the pack and should be fine and 2) the only way to get 4 together was with one account and that any partners I had would have to leave their tix in my name. Since it was important to me to have the tickets in my name, I did not take any steps to piggy back on people I knew with better draws. But I assume with all of these people who are doing it, that the team will be pressured to let everyone switch the tickets into their own name. IMO, that's where the real screw job comes in. If your buddy wants to get you tickets on his account using his draw, well.. what can you do? But if someone uses someone else's draw to create their own account, then I feel jobbed. Mainly because I was led to believe otherwise, I guess.
Doug Loudenback 09-11-2008, 03:06 PM If your buddy wants to get you tickets on his account using his draw, well.. what can you do?
Should that happen, nothing, and I understood that risk. Not having the tickets in my name did give me pause ... but possibly not getting to go to every game this season, especially since the opportunity was present to select the the seats I would have picked on the 1st day had I been there, prevailed. It was no contest. I may come to see the matter differently next season, but I doubt it.
Karried 09-11-2008, 04:26 PM Okay Doug and Centerback, we'll be section mates!
311 Represent! What I like about this is a) Restrooms right out the door b) Concession right out the door c) Exit right out the door - very convenient, plus you get to see the players faces and get to see the teams come onto the court.
Since my date & time was so late in the game, I did have to go pretty high but I'm next to the aisle one pole away from 312 so I feel like I'm looking down on the whole game rather than the very ends.
I got 4 Upper Seats instead of 2 Club seats and felt really glad that I'm now able to bring the kids to most of the games now.
Plus, the Club Seats wouldn't have guaranteed a ticket choice next year.
It was a hard choice, I got there at 1:00pm for a 1:30pm appt and left at 3pm. lol, we must have sat in every seat.. poor reps!
I was glad they were in our name only for next year and because I added our company name in the event that we wanted to give clients some tickets. But, I think they will let you change your accounts and add your own name. At the very least, Doug you might be able to 'add' your name to the account.. that's what we did, we added our Company name as well as the primary ticket holder.. something to look into if you're worried about it.
So, I'm looking for some binoculars, taking some Dramamine and will have a blast .. can't wait for opening day!
* I would recommend that anyone with an appt still try to go and at least get a few uppers - there are lots of those left and a few Club seats. Today, there were hardly any people there at all.
One thing I didn't like was that if there are only three seats left on a row you can't buy two because they don't want to leave a single seat... you either had to buy all three or couldn't buy at all.
Plus, the Club Seats wouldn't have guaranteed a ticket choice next year.
So, if club seats are the goal, then you want to take best available anywhere but in the $45 club seats that are going away, right? That way, you are still in line for an upgrade, whereas the 45ers will go back into the general ticket waiting list?
I'm kind of worried about pulling the trigger on nosebleeders with the hopes of upgrading, because I am not really sure they have any idea yet how they will appropriate upgrades next year. I get the feeling they are taking it one week at a time.
Karried 09-11-2008, 04:47 PM Yes, the way I understood it was that these $45 Club seats are going to be upgraded to suites next year (much higher price tag) and you will have no guarantee for tickets anywhere in the Ford Center. These are only good for this first year.
My friend who bought 4 regular Club Seats had to sign a 3 year contract.
With the 300 seats you will at least have a guarantee to purchase tix and if lower seats open up, you will have a chance at a pick.
That's what the rep was saying.. he was trying to get us to buy 2 Clubs and 2 Uppers so that we would have a chance next year to get the seats we wanted.
But, like you said, they are taking it one week, if not one hour at a time.
Doug Loudenback 09-11-2008, 07:06 PM Glad you decided to get tickets, Karrie, and in 311! If you don't mind me asking, how many did you get?
Karried 09-11-2008, 07:14 PM I got 4 seats. I'll be throwing popcorn on you though, you're way below me!
CCOKC 09-11-2008, 09:20 PM Congrats to everybody who got tickets! Maybe we should have an OKCTalk event before the first game. Karrie, what did the remaining selection look like when you left? Do you think people are not buying tickets because they can't get what they want or buying upper level to get a seat in hopes of upgrading next year?

Sounds like a great idea to me! Maybe dinner at the Ice House or something.
Karried 09-11-2008, 10:44 PM what did the remaining selection look like when you left?
I was actually surprised at the selection and more surprised that there were so few people there.
I think the media scared a lot of people away and the emails sent were pretty disheartening, but they were right, there are still plenty of seats left in the uppers. They're not the best seats of course, but they are seats for our first NBA team.. that's the way I looked at it.
I hope they give everyone a chance to keep their appts until there is nothing left, but they sure have a lot of staff sitting around doing nothing.
If I had an appt tomorrow, I would go.. at least get 2 uppers and have season tix, and hope next year for better seats.. if not, you'll at least have the first year.. and that won't come again.
I'd meet for dinner first.. Ice House might be incredibly packed though for the Opener.. we'd have to get there before they even opened! How about Hooters? lol

we could meet at Al Eschbach's restaurant. Now that I mention it, is it still there? LOL
Karried 09-11-2008, 11:11 PM Wherever it is, hopefully the beer will be less expensive than the Ford Center, on second thought, I'm so high up, I'm afraid to drink and walk.
I'm sure every restaurant around there will be swamped... what's a good place around with lots of tables and space? CrabShack? I'm burnt on Bricktown Brewery.. that used to be my favorite before game spot, now I'll have to find something else.. Chelinos was always packed but the beer and chips and salsa were always great. I think it's a good idea..
I hope everyone gets a ticket tomorrow.....

OrangeGirl17 09-12-2008, 12:17 AM Check out this item on eBay: Item number: 300257157677
This guy wants $2500 for 2 tickets to the first 10 games in section 308, Row 1. Okay...those tickets are what - $50 a seat x 2 = $100/game x 10 = $1000 and he's starting the bid at $2500!!
Seriously! I hope no one actually pays that much for tickets on the upper deck even if they ARE midcourt.
Hey, if someone can't go to all the games and wants to list them in a ticket exchange or on eBay - fine, but geesh! don't be a complete jerk about it! I'm going to watch the auction - just to see if he actually gets it. Personally - I think he's delusional.

Karried 09-12-2008, 09:13 AM Oh my God.. did you see that someone used Buy It Now and actually bought them !?
The price isn't too far off ... $12600. would have been the price if I'm not mistaken.. he made a cool $1300 just for getting an early draw.
I thought we weren't supposed to sell them?
OKCMallen 09-12-2008, 09:19 AM we could meet at Al Eschbach's restaurant. Now that I mention it, is it still there? LOL
Haha nope!

According to who?
Karried 09-12-2008, 10:47 AM According the contract that we signed when buying tickets:
5) Authorized Resale of Tickets / Prohibition on "Scalping"
In order to protect the ticket buying process and the policies described herein, Account Holders are not permitted to resell their season tickets ( or any portion thereof) to the general public, except pursuant to the Team's authorized ticket reseller. Fort the 2008/2009 NBA Season, the Team's authorized ticket reseller is the TeamExchange program through the Team's website and, by the use of such system, will be deemed to have agreed to abide by all policies established by the Ticketmaster or the Team with respect to the TeamExchange system.
The team strongly supports applicable laws that prohibit 'scalping' of tickets, and any suspected violations of applicable laws will be reported to the appropriate authorities.
In addition, any violation on this policy will result of immediate revocation of the ticket sold in violation hereof and may result in other sanctions by the team,
Including, without limitation, revocation of Season Tickets and termination of the Account Holder's season ticket account.
Karried 09-12-2008, 10:47 AM BPD, what time is your appt? Are you still going?

FWIW, the provision prohibits sales to the "general public" except per the other language. I personally don't interpret me selling a ticket to a friend as the "general public."
So, would eBay or craigslist be "general public"?

BoulderSooner 09-12-2008, 12:21 PM well i had my appt today at 11am .. and was able to get tickets ..
there were around 500-600 seats left at 1030 today .. and only about a 3rd of the people showed up to our appt time ..
not the tickets i wanted .. but i am happy to be a season ticket holder ..
sec 330 .. i am in the building ..
Karried 09-12-2008, 12:50 PM yay! You'll have to join us for a Pre game Dinner ...
BPD, what time is your appt? Are you still going?
I went at 11:30, bought some tickets in 319, and went to Walgreens for my season's supply of Dramamine. :)
They're no where near what I wanted, but you know what, they're no where near as expensive either. At $860 for the season, I figured it was worth it for nothing else other than to get in line for upgrades, instead of being on some waiting list just to get tickets. Plus, judging from the sales, I don't think even these kind of seats are going to be easy to get on the open market.
I may still see if I can get a mini-pack of better seats, but judging from what they had roped off, I'm not even sure that's going to be easy. Hopefully, though, having cheapo season tickets will mean more in terms of upgrading in the future than someone who buys better mini-pack tickets.
But, when all is said and done, I bet i still manage to have a lot of fun in theses seats.
FWIW, the provision prohibits sales to the "general public" except per the other language. I personally don't interpret me selling a ticket to a friend as the "general public."
I agree. And, honestly, this kind of language is there so they can go after the real abusers and probably in order to satisfy their agreement with ticketmaster. I can't see them going after your average fan who can't go to a few games because 1) suing your fans is never a good thing, 2) they don't want to make buying season tickets prohibitive to people and forcing them to "eat" the tickets to games they can't go to would really turn a lot of buyers off (no matter how big of a fan you are committing to anything for 42 nights a year is hard to do) and 3) They want people in the seats and in the building, because these people buy food, drinks, merchandise, and will be frequenting all these new restaurants and bars they're putting in. Butts in seats will matter more to them than going after your average fan who needs to unload some tickets because they had to work late, were out of town, or had some family issues.
BoulderSooner 09-12-2008, 01:59 PM yay! You'll have to join us for a Pre game Dinner ...
thx .. ..that would be fun
Karried 09-12-2008, 02:06 PM I went at 11:30, bought some tickets in 319,
Sweet! Good call... you'll have to join us all too for dinner or drinks before some games
I think we will all have great fun in our Loud City seats.
I think you're right about them going after peeps who sell a few here and there.
I'm taking it to mean, full on season tix packages at a highly inflated price ( Ebay)
Doug Loudenback 09-12-2008, 02:07 PM So, would eBay or craigslist be "general public"?
What else? General audience, no individuals identified, sales only limited by high bid.
Doug Loudenback 09-12-2008, 02:11 PM so are all of the people that have tickets on ebay already going to get their tickets revoked before they even get them
oklahoma city thunder tickets, Event Tickets, Tickets items on eBay.com (http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?from=R40&_trksid=m37.l1313&satitle=oklahoma+city+thunder+tickets&category0=)
What PBC does to "violators" remains to be seen. But, as those posted on E-Bay so far, we don't know where they came from ... MAY NOT BE a season ticket holder, but MAY BE owned by someone who received tickets (actually, a promise of tickets) before the season ticket sales began and perhaps covered by fewer restrictions, I don't know.

Doug Loudenback 09-12-2008, 02:18 PM Wow, that's pretty blatant ... even gave a phone number at which PBC's lawyers could call or possibly track down a physical address from. Idiotic.
Karried 09-12-2008, 02:52 PM Exactly - all anyone would need to do was call and ask for specific seats which could be instantly traced to the Account Holder.
Laramie 09-12-2008, 03:28 PM Luck of the draw!
My appointment is 11:30 a.m. Saturday. I probably won't get an opportunity to experience my beloved OKC's first experience in Major professional sports.
I hope they at least send me an e-mail and put me on a waiting list for 8-game mini-packages or tickets for next year.
What a blow!:dizzy:

I wouldn't assume that to be the case just yet, Laramie. There may be some left after close of business tonight a 8 pm. Keep your fingers crossed ... there may be just a few left. If there ARE, be sure to get to your appointment not less than 30 minutes, maybe an hour, before, to get in line. I'm surely wishing you good good luck. Assuming that the same pattern is followed this evening has has been done on a daily basis since last Monday, the press release should be posted here shortly after 8:00 p.m. ... THE OFFICIAL SITE OF THE OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER (http://www.nba.com/thunder/#/news) . Hopefully you will not get an e-mail sooner than that, since that probably wouldn't be good. And, if you haven't gotten an e-mail yet, assuming that PBC is prompt in notifications, that means that until you do some tickets are still available. In this case, no news is good news. Fingers crossed!
Laramie 09-12-2008, 03:57 PM Thanks Doug for the encouragement!
