Pete 03-23-2020, 07:28 AM So, now the bridge is fenced off and no visible work is happening. http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/skydance032220a.jpg cappa 03-23-2020, 07:33 AM There is a lift and spool though Pete! PaddyShack 03-23-2020, 10:20 AM And I think they have added a bunch of steel cables that are attached to the pylons that I don't remember seeing... Pete 04-02-2020, 10:21 AM You can see they have started the repair work: http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/skydance033120a.jpg mattbrafford 04-07-2020, 05:22 PM 15942 shawnw 04-07-2020, 06:56 PM kinda surprised the railroad didn't hold this up (or maybe they did?) Pete 04-07-2020, 08:04 PM Good to see that they are moving fast. ChrisHayes 04-07-2020, 08:37 PM I hope the wood they're using smells as good as the old wood did. I always liked going out on the bridge and smelling that sweet aroma. lol TheTravellers 04-07-2020, 08:43 PM I hope the wood they're using smells as good as the old wood did. I always liked going out on the bridge and smelling that sweet aroma. lol I think a few posts back, it was said it was going to be synthetic, no doubt due to lower maintenance cost. And wow how careful must they be to not drop something onto the traffic below... Pete 04-09-2020, 08:58 AM So is the light grayish color the new decking? And wow how careful must they be to not drop something onto the traffic below... Yes, they are working north to south. David 04-09-2020, 09:55 AM Through total circumstance this ended up being a really good time to get this done, not like there's heavy park usage at the moment. workman45 04-09-2020, 09:57 AM They have their work area netted for traffic protection. TheTravellers 04-17-2020, 12:22 PM From Lackmeyer's chat today: "Yes, the re-decking underway consists of light concrete panels that should be a lot better than the wood planks." rte66man 04-17-2020, 06:50 PM From Lackmeyer's chat today: "Yes, the re-decking underway consists of light concrete panels that should be a lot better than the wood planks." Wonder why they didn't use that polycarbonate stuff used with decks? Pete 04-17-2020, 07:08 PM Took these today. Seems to be about 2/3rds complete: http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/skydance041720a.jpg http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/skydance041720b.jpg 5alive 04-17-2020, 09:36 PM Gotta say it looks good...at least from a drone's point of view :) shawnw 04-18-2020, 02:49 PM are they going to do anything about wood on the sides? just leaving it? it's fine, but looks maybe slightly tacky now that the deck is refreshed... similarly what about the benches that were wood? TheTravellers 04-18-2020, 03:18 PM are they going to do anything about wood on the sides? just leaving it? it's fine, but looks maybe slightly tacky now that the deck is refreshed... similarly what about the benches that were wood? Ha, they barely got the deck fixed, and it took them *how* long? The wood sides and benches ain't going nowhere... I saw this on the nearest light. I believe it’s an actual Scissortail watching over the park. 15992 David 04-20-2020, 08:50 AM That is great, it sure looks like one. Pete 05-04-2020, 07:31 AM You can see in these photos that the new planks are metal. It doesn't appear they are replacing the wood on the sides. http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/skydance050320a.jpg http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/skydance050320b.jpg http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/skydance050320c.jpg catch22 05-04-2020, 07:59 AM Come on Pete, we appreciate the photos but there's no need to be knocking over Porta-Johns. David 05-04-2020, 09:57 AM I find the lack of any easily apparently discernible pattern on the new decking to be slightly disturbing. Maybe there's a larger pattern I'm not seeing, however. jccouger 05-04-2020, 10:17 AM I find the lack of any easily apparently discernible pattern on the new decking to be slightly disturbing. Maybe there's a larger pattern I'm not seeing, however. I prefer the more "natural" look without a pattern Scott5114 05-05-2020, 05:23 AM Metal, huh? I wonder how comfortable that's going to be to walk across in August. Sort of reminds me of the aluminum bleachers at my school. You definitely didn't want to touch those with your bare legs. jccouger 05-05-2020, 08:08 AM Metal, huh? I wonder how comfortable that's going to be to walk across in August. Seems like a weird choice, but I'm sure it will be durable. TheTravellers 05-05-2020, 10:35 AM Or if it freezes over with ice. The panels -- as pictured -- look very much like metal to me. T. Jamison 05-05-2020, 12:12 PM 16036 This change order says its fiberglass decking. Pete 05-05-2020, 12:16 PM 16036 This change order says its fiberglass decking. That makes sense. Thanks. PaddyShack 05-05-2020, 12:21 PM So from that order the benches probably won't be coming back. Pete 05-28-2020, 07:26 AM The decking has been done for a while; you can see a couple of workers but I'm not sure what's left to do at this point. http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/skydanc052720a.jpg HangryHippo 05-28-2020, 10:36 AM Maybe fix up the side railings? #wishfulthinking ScissortailRanger 05-28-2020, 06:45 PM The decking has been done for a while; you can see a couple of workers but I'm not sure what's left to do at this point. http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/skydanc052720a.jpg I believe they are in the process of doing inspections. SoonerDave 05-30-2020, 09:02 AM Maybe someone more familiar with the details of this project can fill in the blanks for me, but. I don't understand why they had so much difficulty with the wood planks. It's not like there haven't been perfectly durable wood footbridges built all over the world, but this one was plagued with problems seemingly from the outset. I don't understand why they had so much difficulty with the wood planks. It's not like there haven't been perfectly durable wood footbridges built all over the world, but this one was plagued with problems seemingly from the outset. They probably bought them from the same place they bought the P180 crosswalk paint from (yes, I know the paint wasn't the right formulation for that application, that's just a failure of another sort). :) dankrutka 05-30-2020, 03:34 PM Someone should be responsible for taxpayers having to replace the entire bridge after such a short time. Is there any investigation into why such a big mistake was made? TheTravellers 05-30-2020, 04:15 PM Someone should be responsible for taxpayers having to replace the entire bridge after such a short time. Is there any investigation into why such a big mistake was made? And could we bundle that investigation with all the other fiascos the city has made with P180 and the other things they can't seem to figure out without screwing them up first? :Smiley122 David 05-31-2020, 04:14 PM Who actually built the bridge? The city or ODOT? Pete 06-13-2020, 07:29 AM There has been no work here for weeks. If you look closely, you can see people have broken through the gates. http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/skydanc061220a.jpg catch22 06-13-2020, 08:43 PM The city needs to put up some bollards or jersey barriers or something to keep people from driving up there to take their car photos. I noticed they had nets under the bridge so i assume that was to replace the wood walkway with the metal. What else is being done? Jake 07-07-2020, 09:10 AM Visited Dallas to see family a few weeks ago and visited Klyde Warren Park there for a bit. Sort of would defeat the purpose of Skydance Bridge, but it would have been really cool to have I-40 capped to create a seamless transition from Scissortail Park to the lower park. That would have been a cool MAPS project I actually would have wanted to see happen, more so than a soccer stadium. Replacing the decking is the only work that was approved and that seems to have been completed almost 2 months ago. shawnw 07-07-2020, 09:30 AM Don't get everybody riled up... there's been quite the debate about the merits of capping I-235 in that thread... |
