Okay, I'm gonna use this thread for all future questions on the games (channels, stations, time, etc).

I seen the schedule saying the game starts at 7:00pm. I'm online at COX to order PPV of this event and the time of start says 6:00pm. Which is it?

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!

I saw a schedule somewhere that said 7pm. Today, I asked COX why they are showing it at 6pm. I was told.....PREGAME SHOW. I come in at 6:55pm to find the game already in 2nd quarter, 27-0. Now it is halftime, 50-0.

I'll contact COX to seek a half refund.

Yeah, it totally ruined the event. A lot of people abandoned their loyalty to the team. The Sooners didn't play too well after that. The score of 2 for the other team was embarrassing.

Just got back from the game. It's the first game I've ever left before the final gun in more than 25 years of going to games in NORMAN. I've sat through snow, rain 105 degree stinkfests, 10 degree windchills, and games OU DIDN'T EVEN SHOW UP TO PLAY. See TCU. The lightining was intense, and the game should have either never been played, or at least given a run rule after the first half. OU looked great in the first half, and thats all they needed to do. The second half, which I didn't stick around to see due to the lack of competetivness and bad weather was nothing more than a scrimmage. All in all OU looks impressive....but its hard to say til they play someone who can stay on the field with them. And BTW....for anyone that was at the game. Have you ever seen a storm like that come up so fast..CREEPY

McDonalds, Jani-King, OG&E, The Oklahoman... those are the reasons the game was played until the end.

That storm also ended as abruptly as it began also.

Scoreboard is pretty nice, they need to fix the kinks with the sound though.

I was at the game (last year in the student section!) and it was very obvious people around me were not "in" it. After we score or make a big play, people usually are high-fiving, celebrating, wooping, getting loud, etc. After getting a touchdown only 4 minutes into the first quarter, the excitement quickly drained away. A total mismatch and everyone knew it, which made the game unusually uninteresting. I will save my judgment about the team until we actually play someone although I saw nothing that concerned me.

As for the storm, it was no surprise to me. I left four minutes before halftime when I started seeing lightning strikes to the southwest. I knew it was going to start pouring and I got back to my place just when it really started coming down. I just felt sorry for all those people who got soaked only to go to their cars that had sunk in the mud. Oh well I guess the tow trucks made a lot of money.

I have to ask because I've never seen OU on PPV? For the people who got it what did you think about the quality, how they handled the game delay, etc?

I, too, went to the game. We stayed just long enough to watch the "10 Year Anniversary" of Stoops commemoration during halftime, then booked it on out of there.

We got to our car, which was about 2 blocks west of the stadium, and by the time we got to Flood and Main the waters came a'pourin' down. Took us almost half an hour to get up to Robinson because of the rain. It didn't let up until we got up to about I-44 on the Broadway Extension.

All in all, it was a pretty good game - well, the first half. Obviously, we have some chinks. I felt kind of sorry for the Mocs. I could tell near the end of the first half that the team - and certainly the fans - were getting complacent. Team kept making silly mistakes, and at one point, we ended up sitting through an entire series while OU was on offense - and our section NEVER sits down.

Actually the PPV was pretty good, they had a pre-game with deano and curtis fitzpatrick, and te game was called by tim brando and spencer tillman they did a fine job.hopefully this is not a trend though I would like to watch them from home for FREE!

This was a PPV game because the big network/cable guns had little to no interest in it. When the conference games come along, ABC and the ESPNs will air several games, especially as the stakes get higher.

FSN played a baseball history show (which I need to record sometime) while running a scroll about the weather delay.

We didn't get the pre-game here in Austin on Directv. As previously stated, there was no interest in broadcast, every other game should be available OTA or cable/sat and not PPV. The UT- Smellsofbourbon game was PPV as well, I knew a few who bought it here and the Texas Tech game was not not even available on PPV.

They came out uninspired for the second half, which is understandable. They played pretty plain vanilla, when they did try to do something they were successful. Overall a good performance, the second half would have been better if it was a normal halftime break. I know my dad got soaked at the game.

Here goes... OU at Washington this Saturday at 6:45pm, our time.

OU still stuck at #4 in the BCS standings, but moved up to #3 in the AP and Coaches' Poll standings.

I pray LSU have at least one screw-up game, as they did last year with 2 games going into multiple overtimes.

It is nice to see USC being below OU in the BCS standings, but not nice to see USC #1 in the AP and Coaches' Poll standings.

This could be another year of standings chao for National Championship.

Ou looked much better this week except for the special teams....I cringed every time we kicked-off the ball to cinncy. Which was often. Chris Wilson has some work cut out for him this year.

Sam threw great all day with the exception of two int;s but only one of them was a really bad throw. I was hoping hed hit 400 passing yards. Defense was excellent. Although they need to watch the penalties....the dogpile that led to the UC QB breaking his leg was really rough on the replays. We dont need a Miami type reputation.

Its early but I see USC, Florida, and LSU as our biggest threats for knocking us out of the championship game. Provided we take care of buisness in the regular season. Texas is good, but not great. OSU is always a dangerous roadtrip in late November, and Missouri looks really good again this year.

USC was my favorite team when I lived in Socal, but I really don't want to have to play them in the Orange Bowl again....bad bad memories. My biggest fear is falling just short of the championshp game and having to play ECU in the Fiesta Bowl. YUCK.

We missed the final quarter down here because ABC switched to the Ole Miss-Wake Forest game...I was none too happy about that, I was stuck listening to the final quarter on Sirius. There was a replay of the ABC broadcast late that night on the FSN Ohio channels that I recorded. I still haven't watched the last quarter yet, watched the F1 race yesterday morning before all of the NFL games all day yesterday.

The official BCS polls aren't released until mid-season.

Anyone know how bad the points/ratings/rankings will affect OU when Bob Stoops decide to switch all the good guys out and the newbies in for the 2nd half of the game?

It is okay to have some newbies in there, but not all of them at once. We need highest scores and all that stuff to boost us up for the BCS.

We won by 41 on the road. That should be good enough.

I almost cringed when ESPN actually went into a break with "Thunderstruck." I kinda felt for the UW fans watching at home. Things were going badly enough for them at that point without reminding them why they hate Oklahoma.

Well...with this being a non conference game, the newbies need to come in to get some gametime. The BCS rankings don't start until conference play. With the Big 12 as good as it is, we don't want any chance of the starters getting hurt in a pre season game that is a blowout. Washington was a little emotional during this game, and losing Granger was enough. If things keep going the way they are, this will be an exciting College Football season!!

OU ranks 2nd on two polls. USC still remains on top with free votes given to them.

FritterGirl
09-14-2008, 07:16 PM
Frankly, I don't WANT OU number 1 at this point in time. We have a bad habit of starting to believe our own press, and then end up not playing up to that standard. We do much better as the underdog, when the chips are stacked against us, and the press is on the side of the other guy.

Don't forget, while Cincinnati was kind of a quality opponent, we really won't face our first test for another month, when we play Texas.

I say, keep our rankings low and let it be #1 at the END of the season.

Thunder
09-14-2008, 07:21 PM
In my opinion, I would rather have OU as #1 longest possible in case another National Championship decision chaos happen and OU would have a better chance to get it.

Last year, Hawaii got screwed when they won all the games with no shot at the National Championship. LSU, with two games in pathetic multiple overtimes, but still was given the free cheating pass.

FritterGirl
09-14-2008, 07:39 PM
Yes, but Hawaii came from a Mid-Major conference, and was a victim of their own circumstance in that instance.

I still think it's too early at this point for OU to outrank USC, and if you look at the number of #1 votes we got in the AP poll (zero), that says that others don't believe we're the #1 team yet, either. Whether if that is because they don't believe we played another quality opponent yet, or because they know our history of peaking early then blowing it in the "big game," I don't know.

If, at the end of the year, USC and OU are the only two teams to run the table, then we'll likely still be ranked #2 behind them. And again, frankly I prefer it that way. If we have to play them again, the last thing I want is a similar outcome!

One can only endure a humiliation on that scale so many times.

Thunder

I can agree with you on that.

jstanthrnme
09-14-2008, 08:07 PM
I agree that OU shouldn't be ranked #1, yet.
I think that once we start conference games, we'll flip with USC. Texas will give us a good game, but everyone tries to against OU.
If Nebraska keeps winning, and Kansas stays competitive, and if Okie State breaks into the top 25, then our schedule suddenly looks a lot tougher than USC's. But..We have to keep playing as good as we are. By the time we beat Tech we should be #1.

westsidesooner
09-16-2008, 11:44 AM
Being ranked #2 at this point in the season isn't that bad. Theres a lot of games to be played and a lot of upsets still to come. That said, I don't see USC losing a game this season unless they shoot themselves in the foot. Two of their toughest three games are at the coliseum (Oregon and Notre Dame) and UCLA is right across town. You never know what will happen in that game.

I'd be more worried about LSU or whoever survives the SEC unscathed leapfrogging OU. Right now thats seems unlikely, but you never know, I didn't think LSU deserved it last year. And right now the SEC has five of the top ten teams in the polls. The media and the voters seem fascinated with the SEC, they do this every year. I'd bet that most of the voters live east of the mississippi river and tend to vote for teams they hear alot about. Not really fair, but thats life.

OU has the players and the coaching to go undefeated and should stay where they are if they beat Texas. Sorry... (when they beat Texas). Unfortunatley Missouri isn't on the regular season schedule, and Kansas isn't quiet as good as we thought they'd be, I don't really buy Nebraska as a top 20 team yet, and Texas Tech and Texas could hurt each other in the rankings (depending on the outcome in Lubbock)

Call me a homer, but I think OU has a special team this year. Sam Bradford is much more mature than he was last year and seems to be making very good decisions with the ball in his hands. I can see him going down as one of the all-time greats in college football. Not nearly the amount of sacks (0 in 2008) or ill-advised throws as last year (which wasn't that many). ESPN - Sam Bradford Stats, News, Photos - Oklahoma Sooners - NCAA College Football (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/player/profile?playerId=188934)

My only concern, and I noticed it at the Cinncinatti game and watching the Washington game, is our attitude. Too many personal fouls and taunting of the other team. There was no need for our players to taunt the Huskies in the tunnel. We pissed them off and they took out Granger. Hopefully Stoops will settle them down and they will play like the champions they are. If you're the best at something, you don't have to prove it with your mouth, just your actions. Boomer Sooner!!

And we can probably forget about my preseason prediction of OU/USC in the national championship.

it's safe to say that the sooners will be in the top slot on monday. the only reason they wouldn't stay there would be losing (no duh) or a mediocre performance against an unranked team. if we blow TCU out of the water... we'll become the darling of the media. if missouri keeps playing like they have been... they'll keep working up the ranks not far behind us.

Sadly, I had to watch it at my mother's house. Her tv... 27inch compare to my 50inch.

OU did good, but it seem that they let up too soon during 2nd half with confidence that TCU will never catch up.

OU is now AP #1. Almost time for that BCS release. I can see why BCS wait until midway; ranked teams losing everywhere.

OSU is lookin frightning this year...

I don't care what team would have played TCU today, they would have had trouble running the ball. OU did get real conservative in the play calling, but when a defense puts 9 men in the box, and blitzes over and over again, it's going to be difficult to run against them.

OU showed they deserved to be #1 today. I'll be anxious to see how many first place votes they get.

As for Sam walking over to the sideline...I'm sure they are trained to do that. It's like getting a free timeout to talk to the coach. I'm sure he was concerned about his teammate, but in reality there's not much he can do for him.

I know this isn't official but in the USA Todays Tuesday paper they had the Jeff Sagarin ratings which lists team rating, schedule strength and "unofficial BCS rankings which rely on the ELO_Chess model. If thats correct then the BCS if released today would read:

1. Alabama
2. Utah.....
3. Lsu
4. Boise state.......your kidding me right?
5. Oklahoma
6. USC
7. Vanderbilt
8. Georgia

Heres a link to the poll: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/sagarin/fbt08.htm?loc=interstitialskip

The ELO_Chess looks like total BS to me, but its early and alot will change. The Sagarin page also admits that the ELO_Chess goes simply by wins and losses. Not point margin, home-away games or any other factors involved.
