View Full Version : New Dodge Challenger
BradR 07-25-2008, 11:12 AM Saw these at Fowler Dodge today so I thought I'd snap a few pictures. They had 5 on their front line, all SRT-8 cars, 3 silver, 2 black. You can click the photos to go to a page to see them in high resolution. I didn't use my "good" camera so they're not as good as they could've been.

metro 07-25-2008, 11:31 AM Not bad for a new american muscle car. For less money, I'd rather get a Lotus Elise.
CuatrodeMayo 07-25-2008, 12:21 PM I passed a truck carrying a couple of bright orange ones on the way into Stillwater awhile back...so nice.
Martin 07-25-2008, 12:26 PM ahhh... adjusted market value... an additional $15k just for being 'first.'
still deciding whether or not i like these more than chevy's '09 camaro.

BradR 07-25-2008, 12:27 PM adjusted market values are pretty common on new cars
traxx 07-25-2008, 12:33 PM Those look great. What a cool looking car. Unfortunately it's probably the wrong time to bring out muscle cars with gas being so high.
Thunder 07-25-2008, 01:33 PM 13:18 I dunno how they will expect sales with these gas prices.
They wasn't smart with the development of this one. I'm sure they could had made it more fuel efficent and still keep the looks.
FRISKY 07-25-2008, 02:50 PM How fast is it?
solitude 07-25-2008, 02:50 PM 13:18 I dunno how they will expect sales with these gas prices.

At 13mpg I wouldn't think they'll be flying off the showroom floor.
Cool car though.

Those who choose to buy this car are the same type that could care less how much the gas will cost.
BradR 07-25-2008, 04:13 PM they will have the v6 "economy" versions out soon or for the next model year
CuatrodeMayo 07-25-2008, 05:02 PM It's like padding a bra...
oneforone 07-25-2008, 05:04 PM I think these cars should be banned. Everyone should be forced to drive a prius or ride metrotransit.
Hollywood 07-25-2008, 05:12 PM Those are beautiful rides. Am eager to see one in person now that I know there are some in Oklahoma. I would snag one if I didn't need the space and capability of a SUV. Mmm, I am with you, I like both the Challenger and the new Camaro but it's is just a choice of Modernized Retro (Camaro) or just a smooth Retro (Challenger.)
Hopefully America will overcome the challenges it faces at the moment so cars like this remain available to those who want them! Is great to see the Mustang, Camaro and Challenger back on the streets to combat the infestation of Imports.
Toadrax 07-25-2008, 05:41 PM I saw one of the orange ones with a black racing stripe on the highway.. I wanted it.
That is the first real looking car they have made in awhile.
windowphobe 07-25-2008, 06:46 PM Even the six-cylinder Challengers won't be all that stingy with your fuel dollar; this is a two-ton car, after all.
Still, it's every bit as iconic as the Mustang, and it's on the road well before the reborn Camaro, so these should sell pretty well, at least early on.
Watson410 07-25-2008, 06:50 PM They have 3 orange ones and a silver one at David Stanley Dodge (I think its david stanley?) in Midwest City on 29th street. I like that black though, i haven't seen that one yet.
kevinpate 07-25-2008, 07:03 PM I don't know if I'm just practical or if maybe I actually am just a cheapazoid type. Even the pre AMV price seems well up the higher end of the reasonable scale to me.
so1rfan 07-25-2008, 07:40 PM It's like padding a bra...
Definitely overcompensating for some shortcomings...
LordGerald 07-25-2008, 08:09 PM So, is it an Autobot or a Decepticon? Because I hate Megatron's posse...
Toadrax 07-25-2008, 09:11 PM Definitely overcompensating for some shortcomings...
It is the people with nothing to overcompensate for that don't get it.
Anyone with balls and a ***** would want this car.
Thunder 07-25-2008, 09:57 PM Can someone explain why in the picture it shows the estimated gas millage of 13:18 but on Dodge's official site, it is much higher? Plus, the cost of the car in the picture in the 50,000s, but Dodge's official site starts it at around 23,000?
Martin 07-25-2008, 10:07 PM you were looking at the low-end v6 model. this is the high-end srt-8 model.
Thunder 07-25-2008, 10:10 PM The high-end is basically the features on the inside? All the outside is basically the same?
m2kneo 07-25-2008, 11:36 PM just like with any other car the higher price would be for luxury interior bigger engine etc... and the srt8 model has slight exterior variations just like all of the other srt models dodge puts out
BradR 07-26-2008, 08:28 AM This one has the 6.1L HEMI V8, the ones you saw online were probably the V6 models which as far as I know aren't released yet. Either way 18mpg is about what I get with my v6 truck that doesn't have near the horsepower or looks as this car.

I guess my wife is in for a big surprise because I don't want one.
dismayed 07-26-2008, 07:15 PM I like the "Adjusted Market Value" sticker. In other words, demand is so high they are screwing you harder than usual.
windowphobe 07-26-2008, 09:07 PM There will be three flavors: SE ($22k), R/T ($30k) and SRT-8 ($40k). Plus tag, title, tax, and whatever options Chrysler can talk you into.
Ponies: SE, 250 hp; R/T, 370 hp; SRT-8, 425 hp.
Wheels: SE, 17-inch; R/T, 18-inch; SRT-8, 20-inch.
Incidentally, only the SRT-8 can be had with a stick shift.
