You're right...and a coin has two sides...that of which they flip to answer who gets the lucky draw to serve you. It's known as the dreaded coin toss...

Your sense of entitlement is a tad one sided and more than just a little skewed.

How So?? Pleease explain..
mmonroe 07-14-2008, 08:26 PM Are you serious? You are what us servers call a DICK. We don't give you great service the next time you come in and we do remember you. Lets put it this way, I worked at a restraunt in Bricktown. Started with a C. I brought in 3k a month in tips, I worked 11am to 11pm, Sun-Sat with rarely a day off, even with all the hours I worked I didn't make enough in hourly wage to pay my taxes for my tips. The people who tipped me well, the next time they came in, I made an effort to remember their name and what they ate. I also ran my ass off making sure they had every thing they needed very promptly. I give everyone the same service, but if I ever had you as a customer, I would remember you, and you would get the wrong drink, the wrong food, and cold. I might not even stop back by. Don't believe me, you could practically ask any of the guys who tipped at lunch time a damn 1.25 and see what kind of service they got from me the next time they came in.
I even had a group of guys who came in, tipped 1.25 each, the next time the came in, mediocre service, then two days later, I had them again, they tipped 3.00 each, so the fourth time they came in, they received better service. I had the same guys come in about 3 times a week with an average tip on the table of 20.00 and I even gave them preferential treatment over other customers for the simple fact that the other customers hadn't caught on.
Don't forget, not every day at a restaurant is busy, and sometimes you need those high tip days to make up for low or no tip days.
So you Mr. 1.00 tipper. Don't expect your food service to change, and the spit in your food, thank your local restaurant server.
I've always given the same services to the best of my ability. Some places only give a server 3 tables to make money on. So some days are great, some are bad. Then there are some places that give you 5 - 6 tables and you have to keep up with 6 different tables, that came in at different times. There is a lot of thinking envolved and remembering.
So give your server a break, not all are ignorant. Some are kids trying to pay for themselves through college since mommy and daddy, or the lack there of, couldn't.
How So?? Pleease explain..
Why bother? I already explained it in great detail above. You obviously didn't read it.
I'm having a real hard time believing you aren't a troll.
dismayed 07-14-2008, 08:42 PM I'm not sure why you asked the question if you are telling everyone your mind is made up on tipping and you are not going to change. But since you asked, I think most people now days take the bill, double it, and move the decimal spot one to the left. So if my tab was $20.00, the tip is $4.00 (e.g. 20%). If the service is very good I will tip 30%. If the wait person is having a bad day or it is a holiday I have been know to tip 100% or more. But that is more out of kindness than a reflection of any particular service level.
Industry standard for full service is between 15% to 18%, depending on who you talk to. For the sake of debate, we'll just say 15%.
Your tip of a dollar on $9 is just above 11%, $1 on 36 is under 3%.
How you like it if your boss paid you 20% or 73% of your industry's standard on any given day of work?
That is what you are doing.
FritterGirl 07-14-2008, 09:11 PM So let me ask this Mr. $1,
Assume you go to into a restaurant. You are in a party of six or more, where it is common practice to automatically add 15% to 18% in gratuity to each ticket, even if the tabs are separated.
What do you do in that situation?
mmonroe 07-14-2008, 09:22 PM Well, if he doesn't pay the tab, we call the cops on him. ;]

W O O O O W You're so grown up with the 'duh' remark. You're a lamo. Can't you see that already by everyone else on here already judging you? Like I said before I've worked in a restaurant. Not all of them are the same. Some restaurants, like you noticed, have areas that several people serve and the tables are numbered (holy hell, how did I know that?!). And servers can choose which table to serve. TRUST ME, I've done this, Jack...
Karried 07-14-2008, 10:22 PM Guys, this thread is doing it's job... what it was intended to do... flame baiting and argumentative.
Threads like this evolve into a war of words, all the while, the poster gleefully watches the carnage and gets a good chuckle.
We've had many similar posters over the years (usually one or two members that just change their usernames), after awhile you learn to not take the bait, as hard as it is.
Think about it, anonymity of the internet really gives people power to manipulate other's emotions, giving them a sense of power and control... playing Dr. Phil for a minute, it's probably filling a very sad void in their lives.
I have a lot of sympathy for this type of person as I imagine they have a very lonely life.
My advice is to know that many posters on this board are not who or what they claim to be and try not to fall into playing their games.
I'm closing this thread to avoid any more name calling and insults and also issuing a word of advice, if your only purpose on this board is to start problems and entice arguments, you're in the wrong place and need to look elsewhere.
