Seriously speaking, what are the chances of Miami taking the Thunderbirds nickname and us going with Heat. That would be tight.
Miami Thunderbirds vs. Oklahoma City Heat
I hope this was a not very funny joke, as you do know Miami's NBA team name is the Heat.

I still don't get the "Energy" thing...what a dumb name...
Plus its not even an option as multiple people have reported Clay Bennett as telling them that the team name would end in an "s"
I personally like Energy the best. I think it's fitting for several reasons while not being "hickish". First off, it gives a nod to our past, present and future. Oklahoma revolves around the energy industry, and is hopefully going to get onboard with the alternative energy movement. We do have several biofuel facilities here in the state. Secondly Energy convey's the current renaissance or "energy" or synergy the city is experiencing during this economic growth period. Can you feel the energy of OKC?

Sorry, doesn't seem very specific to OKC or Oklahoma at all...May as well call them the OKC Air or OKC Trees....

"Barons" was starting to grow on me until I realized that it was only because I saw the mock jerseys and tickets that were posted in this forum. To me, this means that no matter what the name ultimately turns out to be, even if we aren't crazy for it at the beginning, it will grow on us as the name, colors, and logos permeate the local and national media. No matter what the mascot, it will be OUR team and a great source of pride for OKC and the state as a whole. Also, it will be a relief to have a real name, so we can stop saying "Whatevers", "TBDs", or "____".
As for avoiding names that Seattle could pervert into something to make fun of us, they'll do that anyway, so it's of little use worrying about that. That's all part of the game. Ever hear of the Wichita "Blunder"?

I want it to be something cool and catchy, rolls off the tongue well,
and won't be cheesy, hokey, or touristy!!!
Here's my top ten:
OKC WIND (City known for it, why not)
OKC STORM (This is my favorite, sez it all)
OKC GOLD (for credit jewelry)
OKC STEAM (just sounds nice)
OKC RUSH (omage to landrun)
OKC FATTIES (for the mayor's taco bell arrangement)
OKC SINGLE MUTHAS (we got lots)
OKC JUANMOWERS (in honor of immigrants)
OKC FUEL (self explanatory)
OKC RAIN (as in rain down on the opponent, plus we get a lot of it)
That's it.......
