Does anyone know what's going into the old Don Pablo's on Memorial (east of May, next to North Fork)? There's been some work and rennovations going on lately.

Also, there looks to be something going on in the old Smokey Bones building a little more east on Memorial. Anyone know about either of these locations? I'm hoping for something cool and not another chain!

I heard Don Pablo's is going to be the new Habanna Inn Express Memorial Road.

Smokey Bones will be the Chronic Complainer's Bar & Grill. Tom Anderson will be the General Manager.

I've heard a number of things from a Rok Bar North to an Asian fusion type place that turns nightclub at night.

According to inside information and recent ads in the Oklahoma Gazette, the building will be BuddhaTao Asian Bistro (Asian fusion cuisine most likely). I had originally heard it would be "In the Raw" but the ads in the Gazette say otherwise.

Now the new question is what will Smokey Bones become. :)

ITR will be in Bricktown and Campus Corner.

Rok Bar coming soon sign was seen in front of soon to be former North Fork Grill on W. Memorial Rd. I wonder what this will do to Baker Street's business.

Baker St was always over-rated. Maybe they'll pick it up now that they have some competition...

North Fork is closing?

I assume NF is closing since the Rok Bar coming soon sign was placed over the NF sign by the street. Or maybe it will be a North Fork/Rok Bar venture where you dine during the day and rock out at night?

Hmm.

Very odd building for Rok Bar.

Are you sure Rok bar is not going into the old barbeque place, not North Fork?

That would make a little more sense.

Drove past 10 minutes ago. Rok Bar is going into NF building - and someone is also doing work on the Smokey Bones... no signs there yet that I could see.

3 bars right in a row - Baker, Tao, and Rok. DUI here we come.

Yes it's an interesting change for the area. Turning into a bit of a nightlife district.

Where's Asian reporter Tricia Takanawa when you need her? I hope this place opens up for the upcoming weekend.

FYI... Rok Bar is opening tonight (invite only). I feel so special, I am invited.

Not sure if it opens for regular biz tomorrow night.

EDIT: Yes - It's open for all tomorrow night.

I give Rok Bar 6 months. And what's up with Longhorn Steakhouse moving into the old Smokey Bones location? We have enough steak houses on memorial.

Welcome to America. If you want to open a steak joint, you can open a steak joint.

Oversaturation of markets with a specific concept have led to the death of many. Look at all of the office stores that have come and go. And now, it looks like the home stores are meeting their day, with Bed Bath and Beyond and Linens N Things possibly closing.

jbrown84

Chain-wide or locally?

Patrick
08-22-2008, 07:59 PM
Mostly applies to chain oversaturation with similar concepts.

I think we've seen the effect of oversaturation with Starbucks, and that just involves one company against itself.

jbrown84
08-22-2008, 09:08 PM
Well I mean what you said about Linens & Things and Bed Bath and Beyond. Is that chain-wide?

Patrick
08-23-2008, 01:50 AM
Well, the entire chains aren't closing, but they are closing stores nation-wide.

jbrown84
08-24-2008, 07:11 PM
Right. I didn't know that.
