I don't really know where one would stop, and, as I said, I thought it was an interesting question, not that I necessarily felt that way. I'm all for people having the right to do as they please, as long as it doesn't injure others. Where their right to do as they please stops, as it infringes on the rights of others, is always an interesting question, and probably one with multiple answers, depending upon the person answering.

The guy with the Ford Expedition isn't infringing on my rights at all; it's not like we have fuel shortages. (And we won't, unless the government gets a loony idea like rationing.) I was driving during the malaise years of the Seventies, so I remember what it's like to have to sit in line for hours to buy half a tankful.
Yes, we're going to run out of fossil fuels eventually. I figure, the sooner we run out, the sooner we'll get those vaunted "alternative" fuels in place.

This is America where you have the freedome to drive whatever you want. Nobody has to justify the reason why they drive a particular car. I have the right to own an SUV if I choose to own one regardless of how many people I transport on a daily basis. It does not matter of how much you like it or hate.
Your standards and ideals for living stop at the person standing next to you. They have just as much right as you to do what they want. All that matters is that it does not infringe upon someone else's rights.
I think if people spent more time minding their business and less time telling others how to live, the world would be a better place.
I normally just lurk on here every few weeks as I haven't lived in OKC in several years. This post however, could not go unanswered.
Do you have a different copy of the constitution than I do? Right to bear arms...check. Freedom of religion and the press........check. Fair and speedy trial.....check. Right to drive a gas guzzling road hogging SUV.......looking.....looking........help me here, as I can't find it.
Driving ANYTHING is a privilege, not a right. Remember the old Oklahoma inspection sticker law? The courts have repeatedly ruled that government can revoke or modify the driving privilege for pretty much any reason they see fit. If they decide (meaning administratively or legislatively) tomorrow that blue painted ford escorts are illegal, guess what.....you don't get to drive one.
So sorry.:(
