Karried 06-20-2008, 09:17 AM Well, with all of the rain they get, Seattle is almost always all green and lush with leaves on the trees in streetview. HOT ROD 06-20-2008, 06:18 PM it gets somewhat brown here in the winter - like in OKC. The tallgrass turns yellow/brown, and we have quite a bit and even a few deciduous trees - like alder, birch, and such. But, it is true that there is a very much larger proportion of evergreen trees which make it pretty green yearround. I just thought I'd mention that - and it is INTERESTING that Google picked now for Seattle and the Winter for OKC. .... MrBigglesworth 06-20-2008, 07:17 PM Im really surprised that they got Amber OK. I went to Ken's a few days later after confirming the location. edcrunk 06-22-2008, 01:25 AM Anyone notice how the world seems to devoid of all people in the photos? when i look at my house... there's a bang of people walking down my street. probably crackheads. when i checked at my parent's house... my dad is standing in the front yard looking at the camera. and it was obviously sometime around christmas, due to the fact that mary, joseph and baby jesus were in the front yard. OKC Focus 06-22-2008, 02:18 AM I just thought I'd mention that - and it is INTERESTING that Google picked now for Seattle and the Winter for OKC. .... And they call that "paranoia." Do you honestly think Google is behind some conspiracy to paint Seattle in the better light or are you just joking around? I sincerely hope it is the latter. mmonroe 06-22-2008, 03:37 AM Oh I think Googles in on it with the Easter Bunny and Santa... edcrunk 06-22-2008, 03:47 AM it was part of GREG NICKELS and SLADE GORTON'S scorched... er brown earth campaign against oklahoma. they figured it help their case against the sonics. mmonroe 06-22-2008, 03:50 AM Ballmer made a deal with google, since now google has their own button on the iPhone. edcrunk 06-22-2008, 07:07 AM all these underhanded, dirty dealings from elected officials and overpaid, billionaire ceo's is gonna make SOLITUDE quite indignant and upset. yeah, he's not gonna like this plot we're unraveling one bit. heh, just joshin with ya solitude. you rock, bro! OKC Focus 06-23-2008, 04:55 AM Start out at Robinson and Park Ave downtown. Go west on Park ave and as you get closer to the library, it will all of a sudden turn from winter to Spring!!! hipsterdoofus 06-23-2008, 07:55 AM And they call that "paranoia." Do you honestly think Google is behind some conspiracy to paint Seattle in the better light or are you just joking around? I sincerely hope it is the latter. Exactly what I was going to say...dang people, since when are we in a war with Seattle? You do realize we got the team, right? mmonroe 06-23-2008, 06:35 PM There are places all over when you go down the street on the street views, there are time it's morning, then evening, and some times on the other side of the street. traxx 06-24-2008, 01:36 PM Ballmer made a deal with google, since now google has their own button on the iPhone. Not sure if you made the statement on purpose or not but, Steve Ballmer is the CEO of Microsoft which is HQed in Seattle and the iPhone is an Apple product HQed in Cupertino, Ca. not Seattle. Just thought I'd throw a little correction out there. Swake2 06-24-2008, 02:17 PM Not sure if you made the statement on purpose or not but, Steve Ballmer is the CEO of Microsoft which is HQed in Seattle and the iPhone is an Apple product HQed in Cupertino, Ca. not Seattle. Just thought I'd throw a little correction out there. I wouldn’t sweat factual errors like that. Google isn’t based in Seattle either, it’s in Menlo Park, CA almost a thousand miles from Seattle. mmonroe 06-24-2008, 07:11 PM no... no error, and Disney Land is HQed in Oklahoma City. =] traxx 06-25-2008, 09:31 AM no... no error, and Disney Land is HQed in Oklahoma City. =] If it's a joke, I'm not gettin' it. Otherwise, I don't see how Ballmer making a deal with google results in google getting it's own button on the iphone. Especially since MS has been trying to work a deal with Yahoo! and not google. mmonroe 06-25-2008, 05:29 PM OH GOD, you're over thinking it. It's not even suppose to be taken seriously. Laugh it up and move on. traxx 06-26-2008, 12:19 PM OH GOD, you're over thinking it. It's not even suppose to be taken seriously. Laugh it up and move on. So basically your mistake was corrected and instead of just leaving it alone or admitting so, you try to make it out like I have no sense of humor and take these threads waaaaaay too seriously. Okay, gotcha.;) mmonroe 06-26-2008, 07:25 PM Oh, go fork yourself with a spoon. kevinpate 06-26-2008, 08:47 PM I was visiting with a chap earlier in the eve by phone over a project, popped into street view and started discussing his property as though we were standing on the porch and I was asking questions as we walked across the property. A rather right useful tool I've decided. HOT ROD 06-28-2008, 05:50 AM Not sure if you made the statement on purpose or not but, Steve Ballmer is the CEO of Microsoft which is HQed in Seattle and the iPhone is an Apple product HQed in Cupertino, Ca. not Seattle. Just thought I'd throw a little correction out there. And actually, Microsoft is not headquartered in Seattle neither - it is hq in Redmond, WA - where I work by the way, and yes Ballmer is my CEO!! lol *but he's not even close to as rich as our Chairman, Bill Gates or co-founder Paul Allen. mmonroe 06-28-2008, 11:43 AM HOT ROD, I wasn't going to correct him about the location of M$! I was having fun. But.. watched a little interesting exert last night about Billy G. He's only going to be part time chairman of the board, focusing on spending time with his kids, and Warren B. has earmarked $30B of his fortune towards Bill and Melinda's foundation. Microsoft also employs approx. 90,000 people and is the largest software company in the world. traxx 06-30-2008, 11:02 AM And actually, Microsoft is not headquartered in Seattle neither - it is hq in Redmond, WA - where I work by the way, and yes Ballmer is my CEO!! lol *but he's not even close to as rich as our Chairman, Bill Gates or co-founder Paul Allen. Yeah, I realized that, but saw that he was making the Seattle connection so I generalized. Never having been to Washington, isn't Redmond to Seattle about like what Midwest City is to OKC? Oh GAWD the Smell! 06-30-2008, 11:04 AM Yeah, I realized that, but saw that he was making the Seattle connection so I generalized. Never having been to Washington, isn't Redmond to Seattle about like what Midwest City is to OKC? If only there were a handy website for typing in a city and pulling up a map to find out... :D Kerry 06-30-2008, 11:53 AM So how do you use Google Street View in your daily life? I was looking for hardware store I drove by about a month ago but I couldn't remember the name. I went on street view and when I found the building I zoomed in on the store front and found the name. Did a quick google search on the name and found the web site. Turns out they didn't have what I was looking for at the price I wanted to pay but it saved me about $5 in gas. It's pretty dang cool. traxx 06-30-2008, 12:20 PM If only there were a handy website for typing in a city and pulling up a map to find out... Yeah, I have looked up Seattle on google maps before and that's how I knew where Redmond was. But having never been there I don't really know how it relates to the greater Seattle area. For instance someone who's never been to Oklahoma might consider Norman a suburb of OKC like MWC but when you live here you really have the feeling that Norman is it's own separate town. t3h_wookiee 07-03-2008, 12:06 PM Man the pictures for my old apartment complex are really old. Older than a year, because you can't see any signs of the construction of the new buildings that started last June. The google image is the same way, it's really old. My subdivision is entirely Street Viewed, except for my little cul-de-sac! Everything else here is done but our one little street. I wonder if somebody complained or what? Made me sad. hipsterdoofus 07-03-2008, 03:58 PM At least these are a lot newer than the satellite pics for downtown...they are over 4 years old Joe Kimball 07-07-2008, 01:56 PM To my knowledge, the Google satellite view is from USGS photography dating to March 2002. I offer this educated guess based on consistency in detail between the then-current map on TerraServer c.2004 (when it was free) and the current Google view which came out about that time to my recollection. Incidentally, you can get a more modern view from TerraServer (as well as from other places I'm sure), but it'll cost you. I really wish they'd update. GuyB 08-06-2008, 11:22 PM I know I'm a little late joining the discussion but I took this photo of the google car in Oklahoma City back in April unfortunately I don't remember exactly where so I haven't found my car on street view yet. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2097/2424589548_4a54d58ec8.jpg OKCisOK4me 08-07-2008, 12:47 AM I know I'm a little late joining the discussion but I took this photo of the google car in Oklahoma City back in April unfortunately I don't remember exactly where so I haven't found my car on street view yet. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2097/2424589548_4a54d58ec8.jpg That looks like I-44 Southbound between the Oklahoma River and SW 15th St. Just a guess... Problem is, in your pic the grass is green but all pics for Streetview - OKC were taken in the fall, cause the grass is discolored. Weird. Maybe they were scouting or updating for future images we have not seen. Because, for instance, in your pic there are also the construction barrels warning drivers of the cable barrier installation on that highway. In the Google Streetview pics, they are nowhere to be found. metro 08-07-2008, 09:25 AM That's the location I was thinking too. Ironically, I was watching some news station yesterday and they were showing/talking about the Google cars that are driving down every street on the entire planet to continue to make the Google Street View. GuyB 08-07-2008, 03:52 PM I thought I remember it being I-44 Southbound but noticed that on street view as you mention its fall so it must have just been in rout to some where else and not filming. I saw that also Metro I think Google has a goal of putting every street in the world on street view. GuyB 08-07-2008, 09:43 PM I found this site a couple of days ago that list some of the odd or funny sightings from Street view I'm trying to get them to add a section for Oklahoma City. StreetViewFun | Funny google maps street views (http://www.streetviewfun.com/) traxx 10-28-2008, 11:30 AM Does anyone have any idea how often they intend to update street view? Because in five years a place like OKC could look very different. If everything stays on schedule, we'll have a new sky scraper, a new section of interstate and a new boulevard with core to shore hopefully taking flight by then. GuyB 12-10-2008, 05:54 AM Does anyone have any idea how often they intend to update street view? Because in five years a place like OKC could look very different. If everything stays on schedule, we'll have a new sky scraper, a new section of interstate and a new boulevard with core to shore hopefully taking flight by then. Google has never said. But I think they are more concerned about expanding their coverage before updating. Even when street view is updated it will still be out of date. They have to mesh every photo and apply face blur and the like. Also, they like to keep it out of date by at least a few months so that people worry less about privacy issues. Same for aerial photos, I think they're always out of date by a few years. adaniel 12-10-2008, 11:37 AM Just in case anyone is curious, Google Maps has vastly expanded its coverage to include most rural areas across the state and US. Muskogee, Okmulgee, Lawton, Ardmore, Kingfisher, as well as rural routes are covered in detail through StreetView. So now you can tour the entire US from your computer! Yay! Google Maps (http://maps.google.com) FFLady 12-10-2008, 12:40 PM Holy crap is right! I need to clean out my gutters! :lol2: bombermwc 03-20-2009, 08:23 AM So am I the only one that can't seem to see streetview in OKC anymore? rod4soonrs 03-20-2009, 10:16 AM I don't see the option either. jstanthrnme 03-20-2009, 10:50 AM its still there. on google maps, there is a yellow man icon to the left that you drag and drop to where you want to view. Google earths street view is weird. It has bubbles or something that you have to go into. bombermwc 03-23-2009, 08:46 AM Oh, ok. So they just took off the button that said street view. Seems kinda stupid to do that, but whatever. rondvu 03-25-2009, 05:40 PM Just in case you want to know Google is in the process of adding Enid into their system. Snyder (go figure) ihas been added as well. westsidesooner 07-15-2009, 05:32 PM Anyone know when Google Earth might be updated (IF EVER)for OKC. I just went through and looked at some cities and towns including Dallas, New Orleans, NYC, Ft. Smith, Las vegas, Branson. Sulphur, Ardmore, Lawton, and even Pink Oklahoma have all been updated since OKC. I found a blog link that is supposed to inform users of updates but havent had time to go through it in any detail.....maybe someone with more time can find something. Google Earth Blog (http://www.gearthblog.com/) __________________________________________________ _____ OFF TOPIC for the mods. I did have a detailed list and more info but the (your time has expired and you need to relog-in page) came up and I lost my 10 minutes of well thought out post. GRRRRRR. I ususally copy before hitting preview but I forgot this time. Mods.....what am I doing wrong??????? Platemaker 07-15-2009, 06:59 PM Are you talking about Street View or the aerial view?? I found this site today that has updated aerial views of OKC... if I'm not wrong it looks like its from 2009. NAVTEQ Maps and Traffic (http://navteq.com) westsidesooner 07-15-2009, 09:05 PM I was refering to the aerial views, sorry I should have mentioned that. I looked for a google "earth" thread and didnt see one....didnt want to start one for something so tivial either. Thanks for the link....I'll check it out. bombermwc 07-16-2009, 09:58 AM I wish they would update, there are images that are so old, bricktown is still dirt...and in MWC, 29th still has the old shopping centers! Hondo1 07-16-2009, 10:07 AM Hhhmmm. I've been using Google Street view of OKC for several months now. Don't know about Tulsa. Is there a different version or view you are referring to? bombermwc 07-17-2009, 01:11 PM Aerial...no street. Shake2005 07-17-2009, 01:50 PM It's working for me. Zoom into the map, use your cursor to "lift" the man off the zoom bar and then drop him where you want a street view. bombermwc 07-21-2009, 10:17 AM We got that figured out a long time ago...we're just complaining now about the old age of the aerial images. westsidesooner 07-21-2009, 11:22 AM On Google earth aerial views, most of OKC was taken in APR 2002. South of Rock Creek rd in Norman was taken in 2006, east of Indian Meridian rd in 2003, and north of the rest area (south of Guthrie) on I-35 was taken in 2006 but if you scan west down I-40 to Cemetery RD there is a 3/4 mile wide darker (newer) image running north and south along Cemetery rd. That strip was done in 2007. Just to the west of that was taken in 2005. Weird how they update in small strips like that. I started looking for (anomalies?) (theres a lot of them) along the time-lines. If you google 11710 N. Cemetery Rd. Yukon. on the aerial view you'll see a ghost house...half there and half not. Good address. Anyhow, it surprises me that they updated the suburbs and surrounding famland since they have the inner city. Seems backassward. |
