I don't, but have some old pics of Commerce at home I'll look at.
My sister graduated in '54 from CHHS and doesn't remember brick and she rode a horse in a parade down it for the rodeo deal back then but she said it could of been brick at one point.

I knew from family members that at one time 29th was brick. Of course at one time 25th (Commerce) was a major road into the business district of Capitol Hill. I have no facts to back that claim, but it is possible.

Check out the pics on this website if you haven't been to it before. Some of you probably have seen these. Click on the historic photos. There are several.
Shows 25th when it was dirt and the streetcars.

With all the Southside memories available....I think the 2010 Lightning Creek Flood should be remembered by us all. I can remember when it would get out of it's banks back in '53.....about the time Prunepicker was born...it was tough then but I shutter to think the tragedy that would have happened if the City hadn't done what they have done....100 year flood?????Hmmmm the old folks used to talk about it.....

I liked going to the hobby shop on S.W. 59th. I'd drool over
the cool slot cars and that incredible track. I always wanted
my own slot car to race at the track. When I finally got a
car via mail the slot car tracks in the city disappeared. I
never got to race my Cox La Cucaracha. (http://www.vsrnonline.com/Library/Cox/CarsAndParts/Cuc_24.html)

Dont forget Buchanan's Supermarket at 59th and Western where the large pawn shop is now. There was also a smaller grocery store in the Capitol Hill area where my family used to take eggs from our farm when I was young. I can't remember the name or exact location but I know that a woman who worked there eventually married my grandfather after my grandmother died.

Does anyone know what year Grant had it's first graduating class? I don't!! Was wondering what grades it was when it first opened in 1953? Also, what years did it cover what grades??????????? Have tried to look it up but had no luck!! Need to know where I can get an article telling all of this.... Surely USG60 would know or even Gen64!!

Does anyone know what year Grant had it's first graduating class?
The first graduating class would have been 1955. The school opened
in 1953 with only 7th through 10th grade students. The following
year they added 11th grade students, ergo, 1955 was the first year
students could graduate. That is if anyone managed to graduate.

Just found this. From the Oklahoman July 19, 1955, Anna Gayle
Evans will graduate in 1956.

If the Smith Building opened in '65" (which it did) when did they start construction to be able to open!! I would say as soon as you finished your last mustard dipped 'french fry' they must have had a demolition crew on standby for the demise!! Also a "Lightning fast" Construction crew with shovels in hand ready for the New building!! Not disputing anything, but this whole deal just doesen't add up!! By the way, did you know that Francis waxes her upper lip (she's my aunt) says she has never heard of you!! LOL only kidding!! Have a sense of humor. Until we know when it actually closed, I will stick with the 1961 - 1963 time frame!! Could you have went there after Junior year graduation?? I know it was open in the mid 70's. Had a friend who worked there.
They used nothing but the finest 30 weight for the fries.

I drove by one day in the early 80's and thought I'd get a burger.

Bumping, in this context anyway, is posting primarily so new content moves the thread to the beginning of the new posts lists, as contrasted to posting primarily to add significant content.
