Picker do you all get little hammers and those benches with the pegs you beat down in a worksop?

I grew up on Southside and went to Grant in the 60’s. I have so many great memories but I haven't seen in any post about A.A.A.drive-in on S.W.59th and Penn. or Across the Street restaurant. Does any one else remember the great times we had cruising 59th between these two Grant hangouts? I don’t know who owned these places but I would like to thank them for allowing us to hang out inside all evening without even ordering. That wouldn’t happen today.

Debbie1969, Debbie1969, Debbie1969...

We've spent many hours discussing these wonderful hang outs. Obviously,
you are a rookie on this tread. 1 POST!

Are you ready for a total shock? We are currently hanging out with grads
from South East. No kidding. It's great! You need to attend our monthly
meeting, which the youthful Soonergirl26 arranges so I can't attend, and
meet some wonderful people and share what's left of your memory.

Beware of Gen64! I don't know why, it just seems like good advice.

Hey, do you remember anyone by the name of Norma Jean B? The last
name is not used in order to protect her.

Since "they" were nice enough to re-open this thread, the least we can do is stay on topic.

... they sent the kids to Heronville until the school was finished.
... I remember Our room was right by the Cafeteria and the smell was
wonderful... I don't think anyone could make as good of Yeast rolls as they
baked...

That's where I went to school while they were building Hillcrest Elementary.

Man, those yeast rolls were the best! I'll never forget this evil teacher on
cafeteria duty made me sit down and eat my spinach. As soon as she got
out of sight I quickly dumped the spinach and ran to the playground.

... Miss Stump probably was a playboy model I'm sure...

NO WAY she could hold a candle to Miss Crowell. Come to think of it, she's
probably close to 80. Help! I just realized that I'm thinking that an 80 year
old woman is a babe! Come to think of it, I think the same thing about
Maureen O'Sullivan (Jane). Is anyone of this list in the movies?

But fish sticks on Friday meant I was taking my lunch... Do you know what
you could get for a bologna sandwich on Fridays?

Fish on Fridays was a given. It was nice to know what was coming up!

Speaking of baloney samiches... When ever I smell the diesel from a bus
I smell a baloney samich. It happened when I was on the bus from
Heronville to home. For some reason I didn't eat my baloney samich and it
was a hot day. The smell of baloney and diesel has become one of those
childhood memories that returns quite often.
