I remember walking into Sears and Sawbuck (23rd and N. Pennsylvania) and
smelling the chocolate and the popcorn. Good grief, that was one good memory.
The southside one was good, too.

How about the candles during the storm season? How many times were you
without matches? Plenty of candles, though.

I wasn't big on the wax lips and mustaches. Those little bottles were good.

O.K. Guys & Gals.....We're on the second page.....can't let that happen...do any of you remember the name of the place of where Sheri's Diner is now. Last night, we (friend and I) were trying to remember who was there in the beginning.....I said it was a mexican food place and he disagreed but couldn't come up with the name either. Also, how many of you remember the old Cattlemen's Drive-In? There were some rather "seedy" things that used to go on around there.....How about the Agnew Hardware store....You could find anything there including a swift slap up against the head (being a kid) by the owner if you picked something up and didn't put it back right...those were the days.....could you imagine the manager at Wal-Mart popping you up against the head today?

If you went west on exchange to about the third street back it was on the South side of the street. It was kinda a "Hang-Out" for the older Capitol Hill and Grant kids. It became a pretty tough place to go to towards the end of the era. I think the building is still there but I believe it's a bar now. By the way, be there next week...we missed your smiling face last time....

Cattleman's Drive-Inn turned into a Bar-B-Que joint for a few years in the early seventies and then was tore down and they built the Paddock Club. Sherri's diner was originally "The Monterey House" which was built new on that site and was part of a chain of Mexican restaurants.....I use to eat at "The Monterey House" on a weekly basis. I asked Sherri the other day how long it had been gone and she said 20 years. I thought it would have been longer than that..Maybe she's been there 20 years and it set vacant for some time, I don't remember...

-----------------------------------------------------------------------Man, you are digging back in your mind for that one. My Grandfather always banked there. I always wonder how they (the tellers) were able to see out of that. I also remember the old Stockyards Coliseum before it burned. That building would have been about your time and era. I'll get you the name but which dress shop?.....The years I was in that center there were more than three in and out. If it was where the TG&Y was I'll find out. I remember it was a woman's name....And, we missed you and your bride....you have to be there on the 15th, you are the guest speaker.....

Well I don`t know about guest speaker, there might be a few folks falling asleep diring that stirring speach. I remember the last name of the family, it was VANHORN. There dress shop was over by the ACROSS THE STREET restaurant then they packed up and moved to the dodsons shopping center on 59th.

If you are checking out this thread due to it's amount of views we ask for help sometimes on old memories. One such thing is what candies do you guys remember for instance. Remember the was lips and moustaches you could by at TG&Y? Also, there was a wax bottle with a kool-aid type drink in it what was that called? I sold a bunch of them when I was with TG&Y (On the Southside) but can't remember the name...How about the Chicken STIX...Do you remember when TG&Y used to Fresh roast their peanuts and Cashews?

When I was a stockboy with TG&Y the lady that roasted them would always make me a CARE package of Cashews if I would clean up her mess.....Boy, was that worth it....Hot Salted Cashews for a few HOURS of back-breaking work....What other candies are we missing from our old Southside Childhood memories....Anyone?

Man I forgot all about those wax bottles, me and my brother would walk across may avenue to the tg&y on 59th and and get those and then when empty chew on the bottles for hours.

Does anyone remember the old airport Ticket Counters? I'm talking about the old area at Will Rogers where AAR is located. That is the old terminal..I remember one time a friend and I rode out bicycles (dirt roads and all) to see the planes come in and land. Only to our amazement did a Stewardess ask us if we wanted to see the inside of the plane. Really though I had died and gone to heaven at that point not only was the plane cool but wow was that Stewardess Pretty. We got to sit in the Pilots seat and got our own plastic pilots wings.....then we got to watch the plane take off.....Same thing would happen like that today huh???....Ticket to Dallas was $15.00 yeah same thing today. Where would we have been without our bicycles guys? i travel around the worl (I thought) on my bike...then discovered the noise of baseball cards in the spokes...Not football cards.......they were coveted...I had a complete...notice complete .....set of Baltimore colts football cards.....even Alan Ameche...oh the trips I went on on my bicycle....We lived off Independence on 47th st. S.W. I rode to Airline shopping Center Reding Center (got in a lot of trouble for that one) even rode it to Del City trying to help one of my friends impress a girl YUK!!!! tell some your stories as long as you aren't beaking the law......However, my Bike was the fastest....
