Privately funded $1 billion Seattle arena proposed | Top Stories | KING5.com | News for Seattle, Washington (http://www.king5.com/topstories/stories/NW_040108WAB_.20335794.html)

This could be the arena in Seattle that stops the Sonics from moving to Okc.

Except that it looks like they need funding. Maybe they'll get it. Also, it would take a lease that allows the Sonics' owners a reasonable profit, which is difficult to do when you're splitting profits with the developers. That's the problem with privately funded arenas, and explains why the NBA likes it when a city pitches in to help financially.

Last ditch efforts... should have thought about it before they were bought and being considered to move.

...and before I get the people in here replying, you know, the know it alls... I do know how the people of Seattle have already been screwed by other Professional sports teams, and i know the city of Seattle and it's patrons are still in debt over other arenas built in the past. I say that as to why I know they havn't tried to fund something before this last effort now.

This arena has zero chance of being built and I think this was more of a PR stunt than anything. This will fade into the background within a week. I'd say the Ballmer proposal is the only one to have teeth at this point in time. It appears though with that plan that the NBA isn't too impressed.

This will improve Seattle's chances of landing an expansion team.

Of recently on this forum... yes, yes I have. People are too willing to give you crap instead of being constructive... it's a little bothersome. Plus, I made this response after responding to some not so great replies to questions I had posed.

Exactly.

THIS JUST IN: OKCMallen proposes 18 billion dollar stadium/arena with retractable HD Wifi! This futuristic structure will be called the Center, and will house the Dallas Cowboys, Oklahoma Sooners, and OKC Lightning. Owner of Seattle Socnis Clay Bennett has requested to move to OKC to be the first tenant in the arenaplex.

Don't worry guys. I got this.

I wouldn't worry about it Karrie. This is almost as far-fetched as the proposed $1 billion domed stadium in Oklahoma.

This will improve Seattle's chances of landing an expansion team.

How so, the guy has no land, no financing, and is proposing this (a retractable roof NBA/NHL facility BTW) on land that is leased to a port until 2015 with the option to renew for another 10 years. The city and leasee of Pier 46 has publically stated this will remain as a port, not an arena site. No way, No how does this increase Seattle's chances. On top of that, their PR manager was dumb enough to put this out on April's Fools Day with a PR company called WongDaddy.

Brown and his business partner, public-relations executive Dave Bean, acknowledged that they have no land, no team, and aren't sure where they would get all the money to build the arena. The plan is to attract new NBA and NHL expansion franchises, assuming the Sonics leave.

Local News | New downtown arena plan long on hope, short on details | Seattle Times Newspaper (http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2004321665_brownarena02m.html)

This entire thing is silly. Guarantee my proposal above has as much to do with the Sonics as theirs does.

AKA...rolli polli...or however you spell it!

So wouldn't that be cool if they built the darn thing and then one day God's finger came down, touched it and it rolled up into a little ball and fell off into the Pudget Sound! HA HA HA...

Seattleites are trying to make the sun shine on an otherwise cloudy year.

If they have a billion to spend why did they come to Bennett's aid when they were attempting to build a $500 million arena in Renton, WA.

That's just it! They don't have the money.

I think the BOG owners all rolled their eyes simultaneously after this dreamy proposal

What a joke of an announcement
