View Full Version : Moes is closed?
Superhyper 03-03-2008, 03:06 PM Has anyone else been by Moes on Campus Corner lately? It just has a sign on the front saying something to the effect of "Moes has closed" and another sign with a number for vendors to call. Another casualty of Campus Corner's?
I only ate at Moe's once, and the food at Taco Mayo was better than what I got that day.
betts 03-03-2008, 06:30 PM Maybe Freebirds did it in? I preferred the food at Freebirds, but the few times I've been in Norman since it opened, it always seemed like there were a lot of people at Moe's.
jbkrems 03-03-2008, 09:49 PM Actually, and I cannot say why I know this, Moe's lost their lease.
kevinpate 03-04-2008, 05:30 AM Sad for Moe's, no impact on me. I only went once. The whole "Welcome to Moe's" over and over and over and over and over and ... yeah, it annoyed me and I dinna go back.
metro 03-04-2008, 08:31 AM No kidding, I almost wouldnt' go to Moe's just because of hearing "welcome to moes" eighteen times after each person walks in.
john60 03-04-2008, 02:27 PM Moe's location would be a great place for the planned In the Raw sushi joint to go...
Stinger 03-04-2008, 02:46 PM I usta try to sneak in without them saying WELCOME TO MOES.

How interesting. Maybe Campus Corner is trying to upscale on us?
Jeopardude 03-05-2008, 02:30 PM Moe's location would be a great place for the planned In the Raw sushi joint to go...
In the Raw will be going in on University.
In the Raw will be going in on University.
In the Harold's Outlet building, if I remember right...
dismayed 03-07-2008, 10:41 PM Well I called this one a while back. Moe's was just never really very busy for as big as that place was. I still think they would be a better fit on the west side, maybe next to Super Target.
unconcerned 03-09-2008, 08:15 PM When I ate at Freebirds the first time I vowed to never return to Moe's and predicted it would close eventually...but wow, I didn't expect it to close this soon.
venture 03-11-2008, 10:01 AM Freebirds is okay. It's pretty small compared to the ones down in Texas. It also is missing something, maybe its just because it is new and the staff doesn't know what "Freebirds" is suppose to be like.
brian 03-13-2008, 09:06 PM maybe it will get replaced with a chipotle.. then freebirds can go out of business. campus corner is a death sentence
quentin 04-21-2008, 02:56 PM I ate Freebirds for the first time last week, and I did enjoy the food and experience. But that said!... Pepe's is my place on Campus Corner. :)
SoonerBV 04-21-2008, 04:11 PM I actually tried FBs last night for the first time. It was pretty decent, but I have to agree with the above sentiment. It is no PePe's.
BG918 04-22-2008, 03:58 PM I know Campus Corner is supposed to be a haven for local stores but there are a few chains that we don't have that I would like to see. In the Moe's space: Einstein Brothers or Bruegger's Bagels (very good, and Norman doesn't have a bagel shop). Also Ben & Jerry's ice cream (there isn't another ice cream place on the Corner) and Smoothie King (none in the OKC Metro, better than Jamba Juice).
A local coney shop should look into opening up in the Onion Burger/Uncle Donny's space next to Victoria's at Buchanan and White, maybe Top Dawg? That would be a good late-night place. If Fat Sandwich Co. can do good business so can a coney shop!
Anyone know anything about Justin's? It's going in where Daddy Woo's/The Bayou used to be on Buchanan. I don't know anything about it but it looks like a bar/restaurant.
john60 05-04-2008, 11:49 PM I wonder if The Old School Bagel Company would take a shot at the Moe's location. The guys who own that used to work at the Bagel Shoppe, which used to be where Louie's now is, I think... That was a ways back, so I don't know how succesful they were (or weren't). I would favor that over about any other bagel place. That place is dominant.
--If O'Connells doesn't open soon, I swear I'm going to buy Moe's old spot and open my own bar. Seven47 and Logan's get filled to the brim at least 3 nights a week; there is some serious money that could be made by another bar there.
live&letlive 05-06-2008, 03:53 PM I usta try to sneak in without them saying WELCOME TO MOES.
Hehe....that's funny!!
Karried 05-06-2008, 04:12 PM I think the Moes' on Broadway and 33rd closed as well. That's sad, I loved their steak burritos.
jbkrems 05-06-2008, 07:23 PM Moes in Edmond (Broadway and 33rd) is closed. They are owned by the same person as the one that was in Campus Corner in Norman. It was not pretty.
Karried 05-06-2008, 07:23 PM ohhhhh bummer, I'm always sad when a small business closes ( a dream dies ) .... What happened?
jbkrems 05-06-2008, 07:26 PM Karried,
I can't say. Its confidential. I'm an attorney and the owner/franchisor of thsoe two locations was a client of my law firm. Sorry.
Karried 05-06-2008, 07:35 PM Totally understandable...
dismayed 05-07-2008, 07:54 PM I heard a commercial on the radio the other day advertising "Moe's Catering" for parties and office events. The commercial made no mention of Moe's Restaurants so I was thinking it must have been an unrelated business, but at the end of the commercial several voices shouted "welcome to Moe's!!"
It's been long enough since they closed their doors that I wouldn't think this was just an old pre-paid commercial being run. Kind of strange anyway.
jbkrems 05-07-2008, 09:04 PM Dismayed,
There is still a Moe's open near Penn Square Mall on NW Expressway --- right next to Pei Wei in the Belle Isle Shopping Center. However, this Moe's is a different franchise than the failed business venture in Edmond and Norman.
molarman 06-07-2008, 09:54 AM Did you divuge that you are the attorney for the owner of Moes? Isn't that information in itself confidential??? So much for attorney/client confidentiality.
jbkrems 06-07-2008, 05:16 PM Its public information, Molarman. Get a life.
ddavidson8 06-07-2008, 06:06 PM They have/had Moe's all over the place. I ate at one in Austin, and there was one that opened and closed VERY quickly near where I work. It doesn't seem to have success anywhere.
jbkrems 06-07-2008, 09:31 PM Yeah, Moe's is a franchise, just like many other restaurants.
flintysooner 06-08-2008, 05:11 AM I've heard this style of restaurant called "Fresh Mex" and used to identify the concept represented by Chipotle, Qdoba, Freebirds, Taco del Mar, etc. The Moe's franchise operation was sold to Focus Brands in 2007.
MestaParkMan 06-09-2008, 04:20 PM Actually, and I cannot say why I know this, Moe's lost their lease.
Yikes, I am glad that I didn't take that job they offered. They were a nice couple and I was interested but it is a shame that they didn't succeed.
little1335 06-13-2008, 10:01 AM Moe's is really strong in the SE US. It is based out of Atlanta and the franchise has skyrocketed since its founding (2000 or 2001, I believe.) There are multiple Moes here in Tallahassee and they are all doing very well...
