View Full Version : Did You Vote, And How?
DVDFreaker 03-04-2008, 03:42 PM Sorry if that sounded mean. While I was there one of the really old ladies said "I can't see this. Help me find the NO line" Scary part is she drove to the polls!
I hope you pointed to the "yes" line :Smiley112
Doug Loudenback 03-04-2008, 03:42 PM Oh my gosh, there were a bunch of old, old people at my poll and I know they are going to vote no! They don't have any interest in the future at this point!
Please, call your friends, your friends kids, your employees, everyone on your list and get that vote (and the young vote) out there! This is about the future of OKC!
Kim
HEY, WAIT A SECOND ... I'M ALMOST 65 ... and this old guy and his wife may just be at least as typical for our age group! :dizzy: We've seen what Okc WAS like in the 50's - 60's before the Pei Plan ... we endured the Pei Plan as the Criterion, etc., became flatland ... we were there before phase one of MAPS (i.e., no arena) ... before MAPS for Kids ... and we know that we like and are CRAZY about what has happened post-MAPS, and we devotedly care about the future of Okc for our children and grandchildren as well as for ourselves before we become dust. And recall that Karrie said, "My father is 77 and he voted Yes and said 'most' of his friends planned to as well."
Sooo ... maybe a bunch of old-timers standing in line at the polls is not such a bad thing! Anyway, I understand what you meant to say, and I'm not being critical. In an earlier post, I was rightly criticized for saying that "young" people just don't get it. I was wrong when I said that in a stereotypical way.
YES YES YES today!
Doug Loudenback 03-04-2008, 03:48 PM Anyone know where the Chamber watch party is and if it's public.
Or should we actually have a physical OKCTalk watch party somewhere in Bricktown?
The Chamber's watch party is at Nonna's, 2nd Floor, in Bricktown, 6:30 until it's done, and I seriously doubt that anyone would be turned away. I'll be there taking pics as usual ... I hope to get one of you! (You'll have to let me know who you are since I don't think that we've met ... but it WILL be done!)
Karried 03-04-2008, 04:00 PM Solitude's father was the one who is 77 and said most of his friends were voting Yes ... I was agreeing with him and hoping he was right!
"I can't see this. Help me find the NO line"
LOL, I certainly hoped you 'helped' her !!!!
mheaton76 03-04-2008, 04:00 PM I took an informal office poll this morning. Of the 5 people eligible to vote, 4 voted no despite my best efforts to get them to vote yes. I hope that's not indicative of how the final result will turn out tonite.

cedbled 03-04-2008, 04:01 PM I voted yes today, and as I stood in line, I thought more and more of the other many potential benefits of voting yes.....
I've always been a huge NBA fan, and I just couldn't think of many cooler ways of spending time with my friends and family that attending such games....
That stated, I just don't understand how anyone could say that they take pride in our city\state, and be against a continuation of OKC's development into the sort of city we look forward to visiting when we travel abroad.
If this fails, it'll be nothing more than a horrible re-visit to the huge decision on OKC's part to decline the development of a world-class airport in the past, which would've fostered much more development here than we have now (think DFW Airport).
Ask yourself, why is it that we still have a freakin' parking garage downtown named "Galleria" when there's no such thing in sight???
Hmmm.... Now THAT's embarrassing, when a visitor asks to stop and shop at OUR Galleria....
Pitiful, but that's another story.
All of the Gallerias and other stuff over the years that were planned for OKC hinged on our ability to step up to the plate.
The point is, that this is not the first chance OKC has had to improve itself vastly, and I'd hate to see another pass quietly into oblivion.
That's my Piece
Edit: We can pay for stupid stuff like BASS PRO SHOPS to come here, but not the NBA?
If this vote ends up as a NO, we will looke like morons.....
Doug Loudenback 03-04-2008, 04:04 PM Solitude's father was the one who is 77 and said most of his friends were voting Yes ... I was agreeing with him and hoping he was right!

Sorry about my mis-attributation! I'm an old guy. We therefore get lots of free passes. And there you are!
And ... well said, cedbled, even if maybe a bit overstated. Sometimes its been 2 steps forward, 1 step back, etc. But, generally, spot on.
PLANSIT 03-04-2008, 04:07 PM Older citizens don't have much to do. Therefore, they get up early and consequently find themselves at polling stations early in the morning. Most "younger" people have to work and rarely find time to vote during business hours. You'll find it to be predominately "younger" as the day goes on.
metro 03-04-2008, 04:07 PM Doug, I'll hopefully see you tonight although I may be running late.

You got a favorite NBA team? Mine is the Orlando Magic
solitude 03-04-2008, 04:11 PM Isn't voting interesting? Every precinct has their own little "culture," mine now is very chatty, people talking among themselves, the workers talking to each other and the people coming to vote - it's nice. I have also lived in a precinct where you walk in, stand in a quiet line, vote and leave - everyone quiet as church mice.
I am leaving OKC right this minute (keys in hand) for the Obama Watch Party in Plano (Fox Sports Grill). My fingers are crossed for a big YES vote in OKC --- and an Obama victory in Texas and Ohio!
Have fun tonight!!
DVDFreaker 03-04-2008, 04:12 PM You know, I hope all of the people who went to the games here while the Hornets was playing voted YES too!
cedbled 03-04-2008, 04:29 PM You got a favorite NBA team? Mine is the Orlando Magic
Believe it or not, If I had to pick one, it would be the Sonics!!!
I was born and raised here in OKC, but it's always been the Sonics.
I think this was more because my favorite player was with the Sonics, and that was Shawn Kemp.....
I still have a T-Shirt from the 1996 NBA Finals, the one with the two ticket stubs (Seattle and Chicago) facing each other, and well over 100+ cards of him at my folk's house somewhere.
Remember the Skybox cards? they were the best!! haha
I had the Kemp Reebok pumps and all that...
Well anyway, that year, I wanted them to beat the Bulls SOOOO bad, and it almost happened.
The craziest dunks ever, came from that man, and I loved watching them when I could.
Granted, you had Payton, and Schrempf droppin the 3s, but Shawn really seemed to capture my full attention.
Shawn off court was a different story though, lol...
Ever since they got Kemp, I have been a fan of theirs.
Now to think I might have the Sonics in MY city?
Crazy!!!!!
IIRC, Orlando had quite the squad back in '96, right?
I hope all of the people who went to the games here while the Hornets was playing voted YES too!
Many of those people don't live in Oklahoma City, but they spent their money here. Hopefully, we can pass this and bring them back 41 times a year. :)

Yeah, they sure did, Shaq and Penny Hardaway, the good old days, too bad they got swept by the Rockets in the Finals :( On the bright side, at least right now Dwight Howard is a star already and I can't wait to see him in person if the vote passes!!!
Doug Loudenback 03-04-2008, 04:34 PM Doug, I'll hopefully see you tonight although I may be running late.
Me too, you, and I'll again apologize for what I said about "younger guys!" :dizzy:

What type of work environment are we talking. Planned Parenthood? ACLU? Sierra Club?
LOL
What time do the polls close?
DVDFreaker 03-04-2008, 04:36 PM What time do the polls close?

Screw the Mavs, they suck! :fighting3 VOTE YES AND CEDBLED AND I WILL LOVE YOU FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
cedbled 03-04-2008, 04:45 PM Hosting the Mavs here would be just another opportunity to stomp Texas!
Doug Loudenback 03-04-2008, 04:46 PM "Forever" is a very long time ... remember Meat Loaf's wisdom in Paradise By The Dashboard Light ... just kidding! :dizzy:
DVDFreaker 03-04-2008, 04:47 PM Hosting the Mavs here would be just another opportunity to stomp Texas!
Don't forget the Spurs too!
cedbled 03-04-2008, 04:49 PM Oh yeah, and even though Houston is like a second home to me, they can get some too!
And we'd be kicking Austin's butt 41 times a year just by having a team playing in our city. ;)
RabidRed 03-04-2008, 04:52 PM If this passes, when will they start taking application for season tickets? I have some seats picked out in my mind! :Smiley053 :Smiley051
andy157 03-04-2008, 04:53 PM Just got back from voting for myself and also voted for 18 of my friends and family after obtaining a Form 319 on their behalf.
DVDFreaker 03-04-2008, 04:57 PM Just got back from voting for myself and also voted for 18 of my friends and family after obtaining a Form 319 on their behalf.

jbrown84 03-04-2008, 05:01 PM Just got back from voting for myself and also voted for 18 of my friends and family after obtaining a Form 319 on their behalf.
a what form?
cedbled 03-04-2008, 05:06 PM I did not
Would you care to list your #1 reason for voting no?
Doug Loudenback 03-04-2008, 05:08 PM Actually, as far as this poll is concerned, andy157 did not vote at all. Andy appears to be just fiddlin' with ya.
andy157 03-04-2008, 05:17 PM a what form?Absentee Voter Transfer Authorazation Form 319
andy157 03-04-2008, 05:17 PM Would you care to list your #1 reason for voting no?The Practice Facility
cedbled 03-04-2008, 05:34 PM The Practice Facility
ha-ha-ha... laugh on me:congrats:
betts 03-04-2008, 05:39 PM The Practice Facility
So you'd rather have no NBA team than have a practice facility? I can only shrug at that one.
windowphobe 03-04-2008, 05:45 PM Turnout pretty decent in my neck of the woods: I was #558 at 5:15.
Slivermoon 03-04-2008, 05:52 PM This was not a hard choice for me.
Vote no and remain the minor league capital of the world.
Vote yes and do your part to move beyond this reputation to something greater.
The latter was my choice.
andy157 03-04-2008, 06:14 PM So you'd rather have no NBA team than have a practice facility? I can only shrug at that one. No,I would rather have a NBA team that did their practicing in their facility, that they owned, and that they paid for, playing their home games in an upgraded, first class, state of the art, top-shelf, world renoun arena that I (we) owned and paid for.
betts 03-04-2008, 06:16 PM No,I would rather have a NBA team that did their practicing in their facility, that they owned, and that they paid for, playing their home games in an upgraded, first class, state of the art, top-shelf, world renoun arena that I (we) owned and paid for.
But that's not a choice Andy. There were only two choices. NBA yes and NBA no. I understand your objection, but it boils down to NBA no.
Kerry 03-04-2008, 06:17 PM I think we would have all prefered that option - however that choice wasn't on the ballot.
DVDFreaker 03-04-2008, 07:06 PM Polls is closed, now we have to wait for the results, please let it pass!!!!!
andy157 03-05-2008, 08:22 PM I think we would have all prefered that option - however that choice wasn't on the ballot. It should have been. In my opinion. Nevertheless it's over. Now it's time to move on. I offer my congratulations to the Yes side. With that said, I'm going shopping. In OKC
