Lance Cargill held a press conference this afternoon and announced that he was stepping down as Speaker of the House. This comes after recent reports that he and other elected officials had failed to file their income and/or property tax returns. I was pleased that this came to light. I think that elected officials that have a say in how our tax dollars are spent should be held to a higher standard. It's one thing not to pay the taxes you owe because you are having financial hardship, its another not to even file.

I wasn't a huge fan of Cargill's, but this doesn't really seem to be that big of a deal to me. I think this had more to do with him meeting with that disgraced lobbyist in Texas. I'm sure the powers that be and the Oklahoman weren't happy about that.

Good Riddance. The party of supposed personal and fiscal responsibility sure was not represented well by Cargill's tardiness.
