No one should meander alone in a dark parking lot alone at ANY mall. That's just common sense.

Bobby821

I worked at the mall in highschool, the beanie baby stand that was overpriced, well a bunch of the other stands around my area had highschool employees at well, we had to park at the end of the parking lot so we had to walk in the dark back to our cars when the mall closed every night, a bunch of us walked in groups because of the fear of gettting shot or robbed, crossroads is a sad place and needs to go, its is past time, unless they can do a 180 its hopeless

Crossrods is not a sad place and doesnt need to go anywhere.

Its pathetic comparing it to what it was 8 years ago.

As somebody above said, it seems like the loss of Wards is what started the decline and it has become progressively worse from there.

All this Crossroads will close in Spring '09 stuff is silly.

These stores have leases. You don't just close a mall. It will just continue to lose more and more stores.

I went to the AMC movie theatre near Crossroads for a movie with my fiance a few weeks ago, and it was....odd. When we went in, the poor workers didn't have any popcorn. There were several people and we were all asking where the popcorn was, and they said they ran out. That was a shocker. Then, we went toward the theatre for our movie and there were some seriously not-friendly people outside the door asking us for money (omg). After we got into our theatre, the air conditioning was off and we were the only two in the theatre (I know that Harold and Kumar isn't on the top of people's list, but it's funny!). We determined it was probably the oddest experience of our life, and don't plan to ever go back unless the movie we want to see isn't showing anywhere else in the metro (as it was then).

It was nice having the whole theatre to ourselves for a bit though, as we could have full on conversations without bothering people. I definitely would not prefer it that way, as the creepy factor was high.

Poor Crossroads. It's sad to see it decline so much, because I have great memories in there, but I think it's time to pull the plug. It's dying a slow death.

Wow. I remember when that movie theater opened in 1999 as a Regal, it was packed. It remained packed throughout the early '00s as well. I always thought it was a pretty nice theater, at least back in the day. Sounds like it may be downgraded to a dollar theater soon if its not closed completely if this trend keeps up.

Around 2000 or 2001, there was a store there called Dis-N-Dat, and when me and my family walked in, the lady working at the register said out loud "Oh S**t, another d**n customer!" and gave us dirty looks the whole time we were in there. Turns out the store closed only a few months later.

Yeah, it's not that old, but it was all a little shocking. The place looked clean in the common areas, decent, but it smelled awful, and we actually got a pretzel (we ordered two but they only had one) that we both swear was a week old. It was my first time in that theatre and I determined that my hometown movie place that hasn't been updated since the 80s was better than that. It's usually pretty busy at night when I go to the Texas Roadhouse next door, but this was a Saturday matinee and it was just awfully weird.

Not even close. While it's no Penn Square, Quail Springs is still a respectable mall with most of the traditional "mall stores".

One thing that has struck me is how unique Crossroads has been in that it never really spurred massive development in the surrounding areas of the mall. There are massive areas of simple grass lining Crossroads Blvd. If you look at the Quail-Memorial Road area, there has been a significant number outlying stores for years. Crossroads has not really ever had more than the Toys R Us and the Best Buy shopping center that has never had much more than a Celebration Station and Men's Wearhouse. I cannot remember there being droves of chain restaurants and large strip mall stores you see around Penn and Quail and have seen for some time.

Uh oh....i'm part of an element?

Since Crossroads is a shopping mall and there is no retail in Bricktown, I wouldn't worry about the "element" moving there. They have mostly migrated to all the new retail in Moore and up and down I-240.

Oh.....and my element lives in the 73170 zip code in south OKC. We had the highest per capita income in the state in the last census.

So back to the last pertinent piece of info it looks as if they were trying the hotels new theater and roadhouse all came up in a pretty close timeframe I thought that area was going to be big but all the developers bet on the westmoore and the west end of 240.

SeinfeldBlock

I love going to that Texas Roadhouse! I thought when that came on the scene along with the hotels that it would help the area.

Basically, Crossroads turned into the "not-cool" place to go.

As a partial defense to JWil, the "four interstates square" has some horrible reputations around Oklahoma City. The whole square south of 40, east of 44, west of 35, and north of 240, has a terrible reputation among most people I know in the metro area. I really don't know anything about that area, except the negativity, but I do know some people who work at Southwest and others who lived in the area (grew up there) who are not fond of the area decline. Maybe it's a thought for a new thread, but I've lived in the metro for about 10 years and it has had a terrible reputation among people I know the entire time I've lived here.

Also, I had employees in stores at Crossroads tell me not to come back after 6 pm., and this happened about 8 months ago. I was like hmm....bet you're not drawing in business with those comments!

Granted, I will still go there in the daytime without hesitation if I need anything. I hit the 240 area for shopping more often. Some of the stores I shopped in at Crossroads closed and moved there, so it worked out well for me!

when i use to shop at macys the employees joked saying (yeah its funny to put a macys in a ghetto mall) So i think part of the decline of the mall is the employees tat work there, a lot of them seem miserable and dont want to help.. Dont get me wrong there is couple good ones when i use to shop out there, but not many.. also I think it started declining when there was like 10 shoe stores at one time and about 3 dis-n-dat dollar marts... I still cant believe they took the water fountains out, that was the part of the mall i liked, they could have just took the ramp out and added a elevator coming down right by the fountain, which would have been really pretty, but no they had to gut it all and leave a cheep looking carpet and vender carts in that area
