Martin 02-04-2013, 08:38 PM The Bar\Club at Crossroads was called Daddy GoldBucks wow... thanks! based on that info, i was able to track down some articles in the oklahoman archives. never realized there was ever a club at crossroads. besides the graphic linked below, an article from 2/12/74 describes it as a “private club”… I assume that’s because this is before the state had liquor by the drink. an article from 12/28/75 listing new years eve events says: "daddy goldbucks - $25 per couple, noise makers and party favors, 11pm champagne, 1:30am breakfast buffet, disco entertainment with dale wehba." at the end of the list, the article states “all club managers point out that state law requires patrons to bring their own bottles.” an article from 9/6/76 talks about a musical act called the “bob wood show” performing there. Last, an article from 1/25/74 titled “husbands honored at chapter event” talks about the epsilon upsilon chapter of beta sigma phi honoring their husbands “with a steak dinner” at the establishment. -M http://www.magnvs.de/pics/crossroads19740203.jpg ljbab728 02-04-2013, 11:27 PM The Bar\Club at Crossroads was called Daddy GoldBucks and I never saw any strippers there. It was entered from outside the Mall and was actually a nice place. Thank you. Some were implying that I was getting senile, LOL. I couldn't remember the name. (I will gladly accept all apologies, mmm) As I said, I only went there once. Maybe strippers isn't the correct terminology for what I saw but there were scantily clad female dancers and it's possible that dancers weren't always the entertainment. CitySlickR 02-05-2013, 08:23 AM great directory from the past it brings back memories MonkeesFan 02-08-2013, 05:18 AM My story is true as well, Jibjab. And I've got the incurable genital herpes to prove it. (PM me for pics.) Send me the pictures please OKCNDN 02-08-2013, 10:39 AM At Crossroads I used bring a fifty-cent piece with me and a some contact cement or other glue. I used to go get an Orange Julius first, then put the glue on one side the coin then put the coin on the concourse on the second floor and stand on it for a few minutes. People would look at me strange as I just stood there, right in the middle of the traffic flow. But I knew I was getting the coin stuck to the concrete walkway. Then I would go to one of those seating areas that were along the protective rail of the second floor, grab my Orange Julius and turn around to face the coin. That was when the fun of a trip to Crossroads started for me (I was 7-10 years old). People would always come by and see the coin on the floor, smile real and bend over to pick it up. The coin would be stuck to the floor and no one could get it up. I couldn't laugh because I was afraid people would get mad at me if they caught me watching them. But I was there sipping on Orange Julius with the straw on one side of my mouth, not looking directly at the people trying in vain to pick up that gosh darn coin but pretending like I was looking into the store right on the other side of them, laughing hysterically on the inside. Some people would give up earlier than others. The old men were always the ones who tried the hardest to pick it up. They would kick at it and everything. They would leave and turn around several times to look at the coin stuck to the floor. Most would come back and try a few more times to get that coin before they walked off. Several would return 10-15 minutes later and try again, a few even came back a third an unbelievable fourth time to get that shiny thing, cussing up a storm after each failed attempt. People even went so far as to get out their credit card or comb and would try to scrape it up off the floor. Some people even went into the nearest store and get something to pry it up. One day an employee saw the coin on the floor, tried to pick it up but failed, went back into their store and came back out with a hanger and tried to knock the coin loose! They put the hanger next to the coin and kicked at it several times, each a little harder than the last. The hanger finally broke and the employee saw me sitting there looking their way and called me a few choice names, none of them Christian, as they turned around and walked back to work, fuming all the way. Another time a different employee saw me put the coin down on the floor and she also kicked back at her cash register and watched people try to pick it up, laughing as hard as I was on the inside. During a lull in the crowd walking by, I happened to smile at her. She gave me a great big smile and waved to me. To this very day, the most beautiful girl I ever saw. Oh yes, there were plenty of good times at Crossroads Mall. I shall never forget those days. I think it was near the hallmark downstairs not sure. You know, I think there was - at least it looked like a store that sold weapons. I'm not sure it actually did. The store I'm thinking about was originally a shoe store on the first floor at the corner of the east and north wings, immediately east of the center court. Seems like it was occupied by a time by a store that sold a great deal of military-themed merchandise, clothes, backpacks, etc. Have a recollection it at least gave the impression that weaponry was sold, but that was a long time ago... Fleming Published: February 21st, 2013 Bill Rancic was the guest speaker at the Commercial Real Estate Council’s annual Beyond the Headlines conference Thursday at the Devon Energy Center. (Photo by Brent Fuchs) OKLAHOMA CITY – The commercial real estate market in Oklahoma City and across the country is looking up as the economy improves, according to reports from the Commercial Real Estate Council’s annual Beyond the Headlines conference Thursday at the Devon Energy Center. Ford Price, managing partner with Price Edwards & Co., said an increase in median household incomes in the Oklahoma City metro has made the area more attractive to larger high-end retailers. Some of those retailers include Charming Charlie, Nordstrom, Costco Wholesale, Reasor’s, Einstein Bros. Bagels, Ruth’s Chris Steak House, Petland, Cabela’s, The Fresh Market and Versona Accessories. He referenced Whole Foods, a high-end store that was once hesitant to enter the market, but has seen a large success here. “They were afraid they wouldn’t do well in Oklahoma City because of pricing,” Price said. “But they have sold twice what they sold last year.” He said other retail development includes Memorial Road and Pennsylvania Avenue and Fox Lake Plaza in Oklahoma City. He also mentioned Crossroads Mall, which is being redeveloped. The total value of retail center transactions has nearly doubled from 2011 to 2012, with eight transactions worth $71.6 million in 2011, and 13 transactions in 2012 worth $127 million. In downtown Oklahoma City, Price said, a resolution to the parking issue is still being sought. “It’s continuing to get tighter and tighter,” he said. Another development in downtown is the Stage Center, which may be the site of a corporate office in the future. The center is located at 400 W. Sheridan Ave. As far as the office market goes, suburban occupancy rates are declining for Class A spaces. This parallels the national trend, said Jim Costello, managing director for CBRE. “Downtown submarkets are now preferred over the suburbs,” Costello said. “We’re at an incredibly lush trend in the amount of office space per worker. People can lay off workers, but they can’t get rid of office space.” Price reported that in 2005, office sales peaked at $256 million. In 2012, he reported office building sales of $138 million, a slight increase from 2011 at $135 million. In the metro area, industrial warehouse space also parallels the national trend, which is seeing a decline, but Costello said it will increase as demand rises again. The number of industrial transactions decreased from 2011 to 2012, from 163 to 131, respectively. This decrease also caused a decline in the sales total, from $155.36 million in 2011 to $101.89 million in 2012. The Dillard's property includes the 3-level, 194,538-square-foot building located on the south-side of the main mall building as well as the adjoining parking lot. Since investors Mike Dillard and Roddy Bates purchased the Crossroads Property in 2011, they have been formulating a plan based on successful mall revitalizations in other markets. The project has officially kicked off and will culminate in an announcement on April 24th at 4:00pm, center court of the mall to announce the new name of the center along with architectural renderings, new tenants and more detailed plans for the property. “After extensive research and due diligence, we are very excited and confident about the new direction we are planning for Crossroads Mall. Jettmiester 03-29-2013, 08:31 AM This all makes me truly sad. I worked at Orbach's in Crossroads (very similar to Harolds for those that don't remember) all through college. I remember driving down there when I turned 16 to buy some jeans at The Gap and thinking it was as an incredible trip from the NW side of town. And I remember being in awe of the place, as it was the first large enclosed mall I had ever seen. It was really a source of pride for the entire city for quite a while. It's very hard to imagine how it will ever get things turned around. I fear it will continue to die a slow death and ultimately become a huge white elephant. Yes, it's been badly managed and it's a sign of the changing times, but it still makes me blue. Where exactly was Orbach's located at Crossroads? I moved to Oklahoma in '84 and it seems vaguely familiar. Tavia 03-29-2013, 09:12 AM It was on the lower level, next to The Record Bar on the Dillards end of the mall. Great store!
