Oh GAWD the Smell! 06-14-2007, 08:51 PM Baaahahaha. jbrown84 06-14-2007, 11:49 PM groan... ;) AFCM 06-15-2007, 02:31 AM This may be the one time I wouldn't mind Cier coming back to vandalize some property. He said he works for free, didn't he? Oh GAWD the Smell! 06-15-2007, 02:54 AM From the looks of it...He had a hand in most of them from the beginning. Misty 06-15-2007, 07:33 AM And we'll need them in 2089 for the city's bisontennial. (Sorry, that just slipped out.) Oh god, I can actually see the city calling it that! Let's start a petition for it now. kmf563 06-15-2007, 08:15 AM Let's haul them down to the city dump and they can showcase them there. LMAO!! I CONCUR :congrats: :congrats: :congrats: OkieKAS 06-16-2007, 07:28 PM And we'll need them in 2089 for the city's bisontennial. http://www.amodernfairytale.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/Laugh.hysterical.gif bisontennial......g o o d o n e metro 02-26-2008, 06:56 PM Construction on the I-235 (Broadway Extension, aka Centennial Expressway) is moving along rapidly. It appears this is one of the fastest construction sites in the history of ODOT. I've seen crews out there 24 hrs on 3 shifts. Here are some pics of the buffalo/scissortail murals on the underpass at 36th. http://www.okctalk.com/gallery/data/500/medium/I235_mural_1.JPG http://www.okctalk.com/gallery/data/500/medium/I235_mural2.JPG http://www.okctalk.com/gallery/data/500/medium/I235_mural_3.JPG http://www.okctalk.com/gallery/data/500/medium/I235_mural_4.JPG http://www.okctalk.com/gallery/data/500/medium/I235_mural_5.JPG betts 02-27-2008, 04:51 AM I like the way that looks. It reminds me of cave paintings......not quite the same feel as an almost lifesize buffalo wearing a Santa suit. kmf563 02-27-2008, 08:16 AM Great pics metro. I'm still a buffalo hater. I think it looks tacky. FritterGirl 02-27-2008, 08:35 AM I'm with Karrie on this one. I really like the simplicity of the design, and certainly don't mind the buffaloes at all, nor the scissortail flycatchers. Texas has the monopoly on stars, and while we could have done something different, this certainly says "Native Oklahoma" without going so far as wheat and tractors. While it's not the most visionary design ever put on concrete highway barrriers (think Denver), it's certainly better than no graphic at all. jbrown84 02-27-2008, 08:46 AM I have nothing against buffalos in general, just tacky painted fiberglass ones. The 36th St. Underpass is looking great! And they are moving shockingly fast... The Old Downtown Guy 02-27-2008, 04:51 PM Oklahoma is still mired in the previous century . . . early in the previous century . . . in highway and bridge design. Too bad. Those walls could just as easily contain some great public art . . . non-cowboy-and-indian public art for a change. metro 02-27-2008, 08:54 PM I honestly think it's fine. The only harsh critics I've seen of Oklahoma is it's own residents. This doesn't portray "hickishness". Heck Texas has more hick images prominently displayed all over Texas and yet 24+ million people live in Texas, not to mention the tons more tourists they see a year. Many of which are touring because of the "cowboy" lifestyle. Let's face it, it's not like these murals have indians shooting arrows at the buffaloes and cowboys riding horses. It's buffalo's, and we're a plains state. It looks fine and ads much needed public art. The Old Downtown Guy 02-29-2008, 09:21 AM . . . . . It looks fine and ads much needed public art. Calling it art doesn't make it art . . . . the people that designed and built this highway are engineers and contractors not artists . . . it isn't art metro. The Old Downtown Guy 02-29-2008, 09:22 AM And BTW, if we never expect or demand excellence . . . we'll never get it. jbrown84 02-29-2008, 09:58 AM It's a lot better than a blank wall. metro 02-29-2008, 10:06 AM Calling it art doesn't make it art . . . . the people that designed and built this highway are engineers and contractors not artists . . . it isn't art metro. I like you ODG, but I guess that is a matter of opinion, to some it's art (maybe not the Mona Lisa, but it's art nonetheless to some). To others, it might not be art, or perhaps art that one just doesn't have a taste for. However according to Websters Dictionary, Wikipedia, and other definitions, this would qualify for art. The Old Downtown Guy 02-29-2008, 11:37 AM It's a lot better than a blank wall. I can move on to less important things now. jbrown84 02-29-2008, 11:53 AM well aren't we cynical... metro 02-29-2008, 11:54 AM I know, quite a surprising post from ODG. My guess is that he may live in the area being referenced? Oh GAWD the Smell! 02-29-2008, 10:49 PM Yeah, it's art. Clip art. dcsooner 03-01-2008, 06:43 AM There are murals like the ones OKC is building all over Phoenix AZ that enhance what would otherwise be a pretty desolate highway with desert all around edcrunk 09-08-2008, 11:35 AM i like the bison... Platemaker 09-08-2008, 12:49 PM I like them too. betts 09-08-2008, 01:35 PM It's better than a blank wall, by a long shot. circuitboard 09-08-2008, 03:14 PM I think they look great, wish they were on everywhere highway here. angel27 09-08-2008, 10:15 PM I like them as well, they've done a great job on the 36th street overpass. And I like all of our painted bison. Some places paint pandas, some paint pelicans.. we paint bison. HOT ROD 09-09-2008, 03:47 AM yap, we have pigs here in Seattle. Vancouver has grizzly bears. I think Bison is great for Oklahoma City. It isn't hick! Dave Cook 09-09-2008, 05:12 AM Wow! Some of the things some you people b*tch about. Yes....let's have flat walls of cement adorned with gang graffiti. On the topic of painted fiberglass animals....has anyone else noticed the correlation between this new fad? This all started with the Berlin Bears in East Berlin. Then we saw the painted cows in Saigon. Not long after.....painted bison in Oklahoma City. Notice what all of these cities have in common? A tremendous resurgence in the last ten years. Hmmm. kevinpate 09-09-2008, 05:39 AM In a state that features noodlin', cow chip tossing contests, and regularly packed houses for monster truck shows and pro wrasslin, if a few oddly painted fiberglass bison are one of our tackiest artistic moments, we'll be just fine. Besides, god only made two kinds of folks ... Those who appreciate all things buffalo, and those who someday will. :) Oh GAWD the Smell! 09-09-2008, 08:23 AM Besides, god only made two kinds of folks ... Those who appreciate all things buffalo, and those who someday will. :) Well I used to eat beefalo burgers at a Boll Weevil in San Diego, so I did my part. kmf563 09-09-2008, 10:18 AM Besides, god only made two kinds of folks ... Those who appreciate all things buffalo, and those who someday will. :) I guess rolling over in a grave technically could be considered as someday. Not a fan, never have been, never will be. The only Buffalo I will ever support is the one followed by Wild Wings. kevinpate 09-10-2008, 06:42 AM baby steps kmf, baby steps ... there's a little bit of buffalo in all of us, so it's a start. :) edcrunk 09-10-2008, 02:38 PM i think one buffalo we all would welcome is an "buffalo exchange". metro 10-27-2008, 12:29 PM Anyone notice lately that they painted the buffalo? http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3008/2978103155_15a80debe0.jpg?v=0 circuitboard 10-27-2008, 04:58 PM Yeah I did, I think it looks really nice. Reminds me of Dallas. CuatrodeMayo 10-27-2008, 06:42 PM When they first started I was like "ARGH!" But it's not so bad now. kevinpate 10-28-2008, 06:11 AM .oO(first their eyes, then their hearts and minds. roll herd, roll!)Oo. |
