According to Greg Banta about two weeks back, they are still working on permit issues.

They are waiting on OG&E to relocate some power lines and for the city to issue a building permit. Oh the speed of bureaucracy.

Steve, do you or anyone know what is causing the serious delay with the city for permits? It's been over two months since approval now, nearing three months.

I hear it's OG&E more than the city.

Well, finally after several months of nothing, city crews have been out on this site for about 2 hours now in what appears to be some utilities work. Hopefully this will start to move forward soon.

They sure have been taking their time. I bet the developer is about to pull his hair out. Seems like the city would make an effort to help get a large retailer like Office Depot open in downtown.

They're too busy moving power lines, so we can widen the freeways to make it easier for people to live somewhere other than Oklahoma City.

Anyone heard anything on Office Depot yet? I haven't seen them working on utilities in weeks. Is the city holding this thing up with permits? This is ridiculously slow whatever the case.

I heard the delays with the city has caused Office Depot to rethink this location. I hope this isn't the case but I know that the city was told that certain things had to happen or they were going to lose this tenant in the area.

You have to be kidding me. If they end up moving somewhere else because the OKC bureaucracy moved too slow then that will be a big disappointment.

Any new news on the planned Office Depot where the old Dollar General was on Classen? I haven't seen work done for several months. It would have been nice to have that there. I think that part of Classen is in desperate need of some renovation and the office depot would have helped.

Are you thinking about the one in the First National Bldg? Copelin's, I think.

No, the one I'm thinking of is on Classen...I think around 9th and classen or so.

jasonb, please re-read the thread, then it will make sense.

mecarr, the proposed new urban Office Depot is on 12th and Classen.

Is this project dead in the water? I haven't seen any new work out there in months. I noticed recently put a for sale/lease sign on the property so I'm wondering if he or the city caused this to fall through?

This just bumps this thread ... does anyone know if this project is dead or not?

Greg isn't willing to say. But if the patient isn't breathing and has no pulse or brain waves, and is in a coffin, and goodbyes have been said, and the coffin is underground ....

There was a big deal made that this project didn't require any public funds. I wonder if public funds were used if someone would be buying printer supplies on that site today.
