View Full Version : What The Heck Is Up
jman253 06-05-2007, 02:59 PM Why are these blog moderators so testy. Maybe I missed it but I didnt see how anything that was posted in that topic about GNL Saw 4 whatever whatever was inappropriate. Geez how many people are named Joe. Glenn Hayes is the city manager and the papers have wrote about negative things he ha sdone. They didnt not use his real name. I mean come on when he took the office he stepped up to be criticized if he made MAJOR mistakes. OKCTALK I thought you were different than the GNL. But it appears not. This is how they started.
MadMonk 06-05-2007, 03:21 PM What the heck is up with all the posts about some drama on another forum?
kmf563 06-05-2007, 03:23 PM They didnt not? Does that mean they did? Calm down lemon. Grab a beer, find the spellcheck, and try again. Is this really a good topic? I have no idea what you are complaining about. Specific legitimate complaints would probably work better than a computer tantrum.
Karried 06-05-2007, 03:27 PM The posts you mentioned were edited and the Last names were removed.
This was done in an effort to respect the privacy of the individuals you were discussing.
If you need further clarification, please feel free to send a Private message to the Admin/Moderator team.
We look forward to your continued contribution to the board.
jman253 06-05-2007, 04:10 PM Ok well that makes a little more sense to me. However, I still dont understand why there names were edited. It is all true. If it was ball face lying about someone then I understand but if you are from Guthrie the paper has even printed some of the info that we are discussing WITH THEIR FULL NAMES. Anyways, I am not the moderator. Madskunk we have had a little drama about some topics on the GNL website. They delete posts etc.... We came here because they dont mess with your posts (So I thought). We from the area are discussing the happenings on the GNL site. Thanks for your concern MadSkunk.
Wbrook 06-05-2007, 04:47 PM I guess all posts everywhere must be about puppies and roses. The people discussed are/were community leaders in Guthrie. If I want to discuss the president or governor, must I only say George or Brad?
Marko 06-05-2007, 05:04 PM I guess all posts everywhere must be about puppies and roses. The people discussed are/were community leaders in Guthrie. If I want to discuss the president or governor, must I only say George or Brad?
LOLOLOL! good question...the moderators on here have know idea who the "Leaders" in Guthrie are though you all LOL!
...ball face? Justin REALLY? :lol2:
Wbrook 06-05-2007, 05:04 PM And Joe was making jokes about disabled children including my now DEAD 10 year old nephew. I really don't care about his feelings or privacy.
bandnerd 06-05-2007, 05:23 PM *Grabs head* I'm so confused...
MadMonk 06-05-2007, 07:30 PM I see Guthrie has a long way to go before they produce intelligent posters who can refrain from juvenile name-calling. Thankfully, we've all been spared, up until now, the high drama unfolding on a Guthrie-focused board. Thanks for the peek at what we're missing.
Marko 06-05-2007, 09:14 PM LOL! your post is just as juvenile as theirs..if not more!
Midtowner 06-05-2007, 09:21 PM Marko, welcome here. I think what everyone is getting at is that it's great if you want to use this place to talk about Guthrie. If your purpose here is to discuss another BBS, we'd rather not have that. That is all though.
As others have said, welcome to this board. Hopefully many of us will get the opportunity to learn more about Guthrie through your continued participation and discussion. For whatever reason, the metro media seems to forget that Guthrie is a part of this MSA -- a big one. Maybe those news reporters don't want to drive all that way for fear they'll miss a deadline?
jbrown84 06-05-2007, 09:34 PM I just find it very odd the way several of you post on the Guthrie board here as if it is the only one that exists. You never participate in any of the other discussions and even create duplicate threads because you don't want to converse with the rest of this community.
Whatever.
Midtowner 06-05-2007, 09:57 PM Folks, we don't have to bash these people. If they're here to talk about Guthrie, great. I welcome them -- y'all should as well.
If they're here because this is a safe haven for discussing drama on another board, I echo most of the OKCTalkers' sentiments. We don't want that.
I of course do not speak on behalf of anyone but myself. The admin/mod team may be perfectly happy with y'all bringing your GNL drama over here... but I doubt it.
I'm hopeful that if GNL isn't working out for some that they might give OKCTalk a shot. I think our current moderator team is more than equipped to be fair in all things.
jbrown84 06-05-2007, 10:00 PM Not intending to bash them, it just seems odd. None of the other city boards are that way.
Midtowner 06-05-2007, 10:20 PM Oh.. I'm quite sure that this is not the first time the problems of one forum found their way onto another forum :)
In fact, I can verify that for you first hand ;)
Marko 06-05-2007, 10:22 PM :tiphat: Guthrie is FULL of odd people.
Marko 06-05-2007, 10:25 PM Not intending to bash them, it just seems odd. None of the other city boards are that way.

jbrown84 06-05-2007, 10:37 PM Thank you for posting that fine example.
OkieKAS 06-05-2007, 10:50 PM Requesting a Forum for me and myself ONLY.
"OkieKAS Forum" :welcome5:
That way I can get all the messages and make appropriate, as well as timely, responses to myself. When I want to bash someone, I can bash myself, first and foremost!
If anyone else wishes to pro -offer their opinion I have the sole right to preview their responses prior to posting.
I always tell my kids that the reason I talk to myself is that I am the only one intelligent enough to hold an informed, educational & witty conversation with.
Develop some deeper skins, peeps, or we will all find ourselves in a basket asking each other "why are we in this basket and why are we going downhill"??
:banned2: :banned2: :lol2: :rude: :ot: :lame: :iagree: :yeahthat: :Lies: :yourock: :omg: :LolLolLol :butbutbut :dontgetit :Smiley051
Personally, I don't care where y'all are from as long as you are not entirely toooooooo rude or inconsiderate.
Now...........y'all play pretty! To Each It's Own.

PUGalicious 06-06-2007, 04:23 AM http://www.okctalk.com/guthrie/9998-o-j-simpson-refused-service.html
You quite adeptly proved jbrown's point. The concept of the city forums were to discuss issues specifically related to those cities. Unless OJ was refused service in Guthrie, it's a topic best suited for another forum for universal discussion. The city forums weren't intended to be exclusionary rooms for parallel discussions within regional cliques.
Wbrook 06-06-2007, 05:35 AM It was also something I wanted the opinion of the people I talk to most. Since being new to the board, I hadn't taken the time to search for the subject elsewhere and even said a thank you for the heads up. Most of us are new here and most of us from Guthrie only take time for the "Guthrie" thread as I do which is our right I presume??? When I figure out this sight better, I will be more than happy to jump in your town discussions and tell you how you should post. Fair enough?
PUGalicious 06-06-2007, 05:42 AM Be our guest.
Wbrook 06-06-2007, 06:17 AM Well thanks. I didn't realize some of you took this so serious and that there were rules. Such as only subjects about Guthrie in the Guthrie thread and before starting a subject I must first figure out how to search for the subject elsewhere. Do I have it correct now?
MadMonk 06-06-2007, 06:22 AM There have been many Guthrie-centric posts about Guthrie and it's politics. That's interesting and a welcome thing. Posts about another Guthrie board?
Not so much.
Posts whining about that fact?
Even less so.
Well if you can't be persuaded to keep the drama "over there", you could at least provide a link to that world-shaking thread so the rest of us know what's going on. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v291/Mad_Monk/Smileys/popcorn.gif
Oh GAWD the Smell! 06-06-2007, 06:27 AM Well thanks. I didn't realize some of you took this so serious and that there were rules. Now, I'm hardly the stickler...But...Rules? Sure.
4. Cross-Posting is not allowed here. Cross-posting refers to posting new duplicate threads or posts, or the linking to threads or posts they have already started.
That's from the Terms and Conditions (http://www.okctalk.com/rules.php) that you agreed to when signed up here.
PUGalicious 06-06-2007, 06:30 AM And it's just good etiquette.

Not to mention that it's standard forum etiquette Internet-wide.

:kicking:
Wbrook 06-06-2007, 07:33 AM LOL good stuff.
bandnerd 06-06-2007, 07:55 AM Rules? There are rules here?
Oh yeah....there ARE rules...
I'm still confused by this group. If you want to discuss things with only Guthrie people, then why don't you start a listserv or something? I mean, coming here, and starting duplicate threads (violation of the TOS) and then saying that you just wanted to "hear the opinions of your Guthrie friends" seems odd, if not antisocial.
But then again, who am I to follow the rules? Oh, right, I never really broke them ;)
Wbrook 06-06-2007, 08:00 AM People, chill out. Seriously. I GOT IT OKAY! Sorry I didn't read the rules better and sorry I don't spend my entire life on the internet to know all the etiquette, etc. I actually have a life outside blogs and forums. Jeez. If it will make you feel better you can have my first born son as an apology.
You all have convinced me that I should be antisocial here. Thanks!
CuatrodeMayo 06-06-2007, 08:04 AM THESE ARE THE RULES:
1st RULE: You do not talk about OKCTALK.COM.
2nd RULE: You DO NOT talk about OKCTALK.COM.
3rd RULE: If someone says "stop" or goes limp, taps out the (internet) fight is over.
4th RULE: Only two guys to an (internet) fight.
5th RULE: One fight at a time.
6th RULE: No shirts, no shoes.
7th RULE: (internet) Fights will go on as long as they have to.
8th RULE: If this is your first night at OKCTALK.COM, you HAVE to fight.
bandnerd 06-06-2007, 08:04 AM You can keep your kid...but I'm only going to say this once, and I'll leave out names: If I'm going to have the rules thrown in my face all the time around here, and I haven't even broken them, then others are going to damn well know about them, too!
It's always a good idea to read the rules now and then, anyway, just to make sure everything's kosher.
Not trying to make you mad, or ruin your day, or make you antisocial...but did it actually occur to you that we want you to post here, to everyone, and not just the Guthrie people? The Moore people post all over the place, we WANT them to! You just have to jump into a conversation.
Wbrook 06-06-2007, 08:13 AM I keep trying and nobody wants an angry 16 year old.
bandnerd 06-06-2007, 08:16 AM LOL
Send him on down to my school, we'll un-anger him ;) We have a student who comes all the way from Guthrie, actually.
Either way, we want you to participate, we want to get to know you...and I think some of us are quite curious as to what's going on on this other board. Just because we're nosy like that...
People, chill out. Seriously. I GOT IT OKAY! Relax, man! Just about everybody gets smacked around for TOS violations from time to time. That's how we learn. I really do hope you Guthrie-ites get more involved in the board!
Wbrook 06-06-2007, 08:33 AM Oh, so I just got initiated and forgot to yell, "Thank you sir, may I have another?"
Where's those smiley things when I need one....
kmf563 06-06-2007, 08:49 AM Oh don't encourage them. please. But yes, you just passed your newbie test. I just went and read the rules again....it's interesting how many rules are broken on a daily basis. The first rule is something about not being rude!!!! ha.
Anyway......
:welcome5:
kmf563 06-06-2007, 09:01 AM Shut up, kmf.
:fighting2 :LolLolLol
Marko 06-06-2007, 10:41 AM Well some of you have asked and I'm not sure if this is going to work and is almost certainly aginst the rules?
Here goes anyway...LOL!
Guthrie News Leader (http://www.guthrienewsleader.net/mod/forum/)
bandnerd 06-06-2007, 12:50 PM OMG the format alone kills my eyes...
jbrown84 06-06-2007, 02:28 PM Holy crap I hate those kind of forums. What is this, 1998?
jman253 06-06-2007, 04:28 PM Well my opinion is if you dont like what we are talking about...........DONT READ IT. I have found my way on to several boards on OKCTALK that I thought were inappropriate as well but it is someones topic that they were discussing so I moved on....if only 1person responds to my board then hey there ya have it someone was interested . If from that point on someone comes into my thread and decides they dont like it CLICK RIGHT ON OUT OF IT.
jbrown84 06-06-2007, 04:30 PM That's not really how it works.
jman253 06-06-2007, 04:32 PM It can work anyway you want it to work.
bandnerd 06-06-2007, 04:35 PM Testy today, jman?
I still have basically no idea what you're talking about...if you're upset about how everyone's ragging on you about multiple threads, well, we're not supposed to make duplicate threads. If you are insulted that we don't like the GNL forum-style, well, I don't really have any ideas for you because as far as I know you aren't the creator of the site and so you have no say in its design.
Otherwise, what exactly is your problem? Moderators overstepping boundaries? Angry members on okctalk? What is it?
And who is "we?" Guthrie people? Because, by all means, you are included in the metro area as a Guthrie resident...but you don't have to always make everything Guthrie-centric. I don't post solely about downtown issues. Southsiders talk about other issues, as well. Jump on the bandwagon.
jman253 06-06-2007, 04:46 PM No sorry dont mean to be testy. I could care less who posts where. I think the multiple thread thing is fine but most that I know on here dont have the time to search around and look for a particular thread. I dont feel anyone should be chastized for making a duplicate thread. GNL forum style sucks this is way better. This post was because a moderator edited a post and closed it because a poster used 2 public officials names from Guthrie. I dont feel it should have been edited and definitely dont think it should have been closed. Thats all I am saying. Then it spiraled into whatever everyone else started off about from that.
bandnerd 06-06-2007, 05:10 PM The moderator on this forum edited and then closed the thread here?
It seems odd that they would edit the names of public officials, unless completely slanderous material was thrown out there and perhaps they did it because that material was a violation of the TOS.
However, if you have a problem with a moderator, your best bet is to simply contact the moderator in question, or the owner of the site, and speak with them directly about your discontent.
Marko 06-06-2007, 07:21 PM Holy crap I hate those kind of forums. What is this, 1998?
LOL!...maybe 1989? WHEW!
bandnerd 06-06-2007, 07:29 PM Seriously, it's awful at GNL...I've never even seen a forum put together like that until now! I didn't even participate in online forums when they looked like that :P
jman253 06-06-2007, 09:10 PM Yes bandnerd that is what i am talking about is it was closed because we were using the names of the officials. DUH how else would you know who we were talking about. Anyways, I guess this kinda caused a stir because we have never had this many responses to any of our posts in the Guthrie room. WOOHOO
Midtowner 06-06-2007, 09:18 PM Perhaps the mod that did this made a mistake.
It's hard to know that these are public officials when we've never heard of them. A friend of mine, Tom Cook, ran for a House seat down there in Guthrie, so I'm personally familiar with some of the names in Logan County -- but not many. I can only assume most of our moderators (due respect) couldn't name one public official down there.
I moderate another board and it's just a kneejerk thing I do -- if I see something which might get the admin into a defamation suit, I just delete it.
Of course, if this board is anything like the place I moderate, it has a soft delete function which will allow that moderator (or any moderator) to undelete/undo all the things he/she did.
Your best bet is to handle this issue with them via PM. If they were mistaken in what they did (and I agree with you, public officials have no expectation of privacy when it comes to public comments like the ones that were squelched), they'll make it right.
If you're unsure how to use the private message function (and it's sort of hard to find in this software because the User CP has to be accessed in an ass-backwards way), just say so. We're all willing to help you.
kmf563 06-07-2007, 07:29 AM Am I the only person who doesn't even look at the labels or categories for posts? If I am going to start a thread, of course I look at the topics and pick one. But as far as reading and responding...I could care less what category it's in. I just hit "new posts" and read the thread topics. If it sounds interesting I read it, if I have something to say then I respond. I don't even pay attention to whether it is from Guthrie, bricktown, pb&j...whatever.
Oh GAWD the Smell! 06-07-2007, 07:38 AM Am I the only person who doesn't even look at the labels or categories for posts? If I am going to start a thread, of course I look at the topics and pick one. That's how I cruise the forums on just about every board I'm on.
Okiekatt 06-07-2007, 10:15 PM Sorry guys I started all this mess, I was the one that named names of some officials, but we had done it on one here before, under the "streets" thread, so I didn't think it was a big deal.
Some of us came over here because of some things that were happening on the GNL thread. We're pretty isolated over there and forgot when we come over here, it's a much bigger world, it's not all about us. (it's ALL about ME HE HEHEE)
But I'm not sorry, because like Jman said, this is the first time we have had anyone else comment on our post.
You like us, you really really like us.......LOL
Martin 06-08-2007, 06:12 AM hey, it's no big deal. it's not as if anybody 'killed the pope' or anything. there's no problem in naming public officials. the problem in those posts was that the officials named were being tied to specific usernames on another board. i'm not questioning the truth of the statements in the thread i closed... but we have no way of verifying whether or not those usernames belong to those particular officials. we have had, on rare occasion, people posing as public personalities say some controversial things. we don't want to go down that road again.
and now you know, and knowing is half the battle.
-M
Okiekatt 06-08-2007, 06:50 AM Ahhhh, never thought of it that way, I completely understand now. Gotcha.
That's pretty dirty for someone to do that, pretend to be a public official and post as them. I really dislike some of ours in Guthrie, but I have NEVER thought of doing that. Sort of creepy. The Internet can be a powerful place, the "other" blog that no one here wants to hear about, has made some positive changes in our school system, it's truly amazing.
Keep up the good work, Moderator, You have a hard job.
ChappellTime 06-08-2007, 11:09 AM Thanks for giving out that idea. That does sound like something that would happen over there. I give it a few days before pulblic officials start logging onto the board and comming out of the closet. Big city confusery meets small town dirty politics.
